Major, but tiny, yet concentrated storm fronts are passing through DuPage and Cook Counties (chi-town), causing major flooding, and now, effing tornadoes.
The whether or knot channel has really pretty, colorful images, but for those who live here, watch out.
Just walked my puppy before the worst comes, gathered an amazing amount of mushrooms, black mulberries, and of course, picked up after puppy just as the temps dropped and the winds picked up.
This Whether or knot was, is, and seems to be weird as hell. And this is Cook County. We are supposed to be, like, average. Well, on second thought, we do have four unique seasons: Bitter Winters, Horrific summers, Road construction, and elections.
I just saw that we will have two fucking weeks of rain coming our way. With hail, flooding, heat, humidity, and lightening. Hey, weather gods, this AIN'T Houston!

(17,997 posts)I walked to the corner store and when I came out it was POURING. If course I didn't bring an umbrella. By the time I got home, I was so soaked I might as well have jumped in a pool. As soon as I changed my clothes to just long old tshirt, the sirens went off and the phone and TV emergency stuff went on.
They're saying that there is a tropical storm brewing in the Gulf.
Crazy weather, even for Chicago.
At least 2 funnel clouds I know about

(39,961 posts)We've got weather problems all over the place - poor Texas , and here on the eastern gulf coast it seems like we get flash flood warnings at least twice a week, and now poor Illinois is getting hammered.
Anywhere in the path of that nasty mess in the gulf is going to be floating.

(51,076 posts)morels maybe? Our season has been over a while here but my brother and I put my raised golf cart from hell to good use this summer. In about a three and half week span we gathered 2035 of them. I have several messes in the freezer as I type.
Pork baby back ribs cooked on the Big Green Egg and stuffed with fried morels after you pull the bone out is to die for

(46,436 posts)we could use some of that rain. It's well over 80 degrees here today with the smoke from two wildfires hanging in the air.

(34 posts)Thanks for the update. My mom's west of Springfield IL, says they've been receiving copious amounts of precipitation. I'm in NWA, the lake (31,700 acres) below my house is full, flood gates have been opened a few times already this season, and we're expecting 7-10" in the next few days. Water, water everywhere ... and mega surface e. coli washing into the lake, many swim beaches closed. Sigh.
Best wishes!
Paddle faster ... I hear banjos!

(28,017 posts)Wisconsin refuses to treat its sewage, and because indiana keeps lowering its water standards to allow some steel makers and refineries to make bigger profits.

(34 posts)the main problems seem to be corporate chicken farming operations, a plethora of septic systems shockingly close to Corps property, and a huge amount of wildlife doing what they do in the woods -- not to mention effluent discharged into the lake from the Northwest Corridor. This lake has a huge watershed area and 487 miles of shoreline. It'll be a while before I'm comfortable swimming, skiing, or scuba diving there again. It's a shame ... but hopefully it will be able to recover soon ... this time.
