House republicans and Obama don't have the votes for TAA - looking to postpone re-vote until July 30

House GOP leaders quietly punt trade vote: http://hill.cm/0dYXWUE

House GOP leaders are punting on voting again on President Obama's trade agenda, possibly until the end of July.

After Friday's failed vote to pass aid for workers displaced by trade deals, known as Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) set up a process allowing the House to conduct a do-over of the vote by Tuesday.

But Obama and GOP leadership aren't yet in a position where TAA is any more likely to pass. So the House Rules Committee on Monday night attached a provision to a "rule" governing parameters for debate on the intelligence authorization bill that extends the possibility for the chamber to vote on TAA again to July 30.

The House will consider the rule containing the provision to extend the possible trade re-vote on Tuesday afternoon.

They hold controversial votes late at night just before the August Recess to hold them hostage for a yes vote.

Interesting what battles some politicians keep their powder dry for. What a headline.
Plus, I doubt very much that "Obama and the GOP" (great name for a rock band, right?) care about the TAA at all, except as K-Y Jelly for Fast Track. Well, maybe there is a little frisson of happiness at casually cutting Medicare. Kudos to the Kochs, by the way. I think cutting away at Medicare is one of their fondest wishes. And anyone who thinks that the ACA is leading to Single Payer - Bwah! No, now I think the ACA is leading to getting rid of Medicare, handing out vouchers, and then a spirited and fun game of Cut the Vouchers, whenever money is needed for important stuff like War or corporate subsidies.

...to pass a provision which he had hoped would appeal to and persuade Democrats to vote for a trade bill mostly supported by republicans.
