Jeb! and Terri Schiavo

Here’s the reason that former Florida governor, Jeb!, should never be allowed anywhere near another elected office, no less the presidency.

The legislative, executive, and judicial branches, of both the United States federal government and the State of Florida, were involved in the case of Terri Schiavo. In November 1998 Michael Schiavo, husband of Terri Schiavo, first sought permission to remove his wife's feeding tube. Schiavo had suffered brain damage in February 1990, and in February 2000 had been ruled by a Florida circuit court to be in a persistent vegetative state. Her feeding tube was removed on April 26, 2001, but was reinserted two days later on an appeal by her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler.

On October 10, 2003, the final remaining appeal filed by the Schindlers was dismissed. Five days later, on October 15, Schiavo's feeding tube was removed for the second time. On October 21, the Florida Legislature, in emergency session, passed "Terri's Law".[1] This gave Florida Governor Jeb Bush the authority to intervene in the case. Gov. Bush immediately ordered the feeding tube reinserted.

The case went national with every wingnut, lunatic Republican trying to pass legislation to intervene. The Supreme Court refused to hear the case and Terri Schiavo died in March of 2005 after the tube was removed. Jeb! was on the wrong side of decency throughout the years this saga endured.

Jeb! could have squashed this circus of insanity immediately by vetoing “Terri’s Law.” But even then, he had his eye on the presidency. He’s always been called “the smart Bush,” and he is. He knew and knows how morally wrong it was to get involved in this tragedy. He knew and knows that this was a matter that had no place in the public arena, or being subjected to wingnut gamesmanship. But Jeb! would sell his soul to the devil before he’d piss off the Republican base.

The Schiavo case revealed just how insane and morally squalid the Republican Party had/has become. In a sane world, Jeb! and all like him would be outcasts.

It is actually a big plus for bush with the fundy base.

The general election is where it will hurt him, IF the Democrats actually use it properly.
