PSA: Election Fraud and Voter Fraud are two VERY different things

All of the Democratic candidates (and virtually all dems) reject the bogus republican manufactured lies about the widespread phenomenon of "voter fraud"- and with good reason: According to the GAO and all other reputable sources, voter fraud is not only not widespread, it's rare. The republicans ginned it up in order to justify discriminatory laws that impede vulnerable groups from exercising their right to vote. Groups like minorities, the elderly, the disabled and young voters. Laws like voter id, shortening voter hours and curtailing early voting.

Electoral fraud is systemic and includes such things as rigged voting machines. (I also include those discriminatory laws)

Here's a great piece on this:

Terminology is important: Election Fraud v Voter Fraud

I'm not going to point fingers at anyone but just to try and clarify why this is important.

Election Fraud is the illegal interference with the process of an election.

Voter fraud is a popular, if vague phrase, which in general seems to mean that individual voters misrepresenting who they are. When organized, this becomes electoral fraud.

Voter fraud has been proved to be extremely rare in the US, no matter how much the right wing scream about it, but when they actually act upon this mistaken belief it can result in:

I'd like to see both parties get together and decide to remove the perception that either one is happening. Stop whatever is happening and put things in place to be able to show that there was none of either type of fraud. I don't know what we should put in place but with all the energy the parties have to fight over the issue they should be able to come up with solutions that they're both happy with.

As long as Rs and Ds are both screaming "fraud" we end up with people thinking the winner is illegitimate.

Republicans claim rampant Voter Fraud (which is almost nonexistent) as an excuse for more voter ID laws (to suppress the vote), while completely ignoring Election Fraud (for which they are probably responsible).
