The end is coming for both Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio as Limbaugh has seen his show demoted and shipped off to another low rated small station. Boston has become the latest city to send Limbaugh into a dark corner of the radio dial."
The good news for Rush Limbaugh: One month after being notified he was getting dumped by his Boston talk radio host station, the talker has a new AM home in the city.
The bad news: The station currently boasts a 0.6 rating, trails four non-commercial stations in the market, and becomes yet another big-city, cellar-dwelling outpost that Limbaugh is forced to call home.
The station, WKOX, is the type of bottom-rung affiliate that Limbaugh was rarely associated with during his halcyon days as the king of talk radio. But those days seem to be dwindling as the Boston fall from grace has previously played out for Limbaugh in places like Los Angeles and Indianapolis. In each instance, Limbaugh exited a prosperous, longtime radio home and was forced to settle for an also-ran outlet with miniscule ratings.
*Rush Limbaugh is in a media death spiral, and if Fox News cant attract younger viewers, they are destined to follow in Limbaughs footsteps."

(6,409 posts)Too bad this guy has been with us since the 1980s. I have to wonder bout my country when somebody such as Limbaugh rises to fame and fortune, and has millions of people hanging on his every word.

(6,409 posts)I'd like to think the pendulum is swinging back the right way. Things certainly got much worse than I ever expected. Maybe we're in for some relief from the paranoid right wing fantasies that dominated for so long.

(12,629 posts)Since boycotting sponsors seems to work, perhaps the advertisers on these bottom-rung affiliates should be next.

He's been in a "death spiral" for years, but somehow he's still the #1 talk radio show in the country. I always just smh when I see these stories. It makes us look foolish.

(37,748 posts)His ratings have been consistently declining. His national advertisers have been consistently leaving. His demographics are getting older, and thus, represents fewer and fewer people. He's being relegated to second- and third-tier stations.
Hanging one's hat on the premise that he's the #1 talk show host is akin to boasting about the #1 abacus. The belief that popular culture changes overnight is an irrational thought. His irrelevancy has begun, and will gather speed up as his target demographic shuffles off this, out mortal coil...
