Charleston shooting: Five-year-old child who 'played dead' among survivors in South Carolina

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/charleston-shooting-fiveyearold-child-who-played-dead-among-survivors-in-south-carolina-10327938.html

A five-year-old child survived the fatal mass shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina by pretending to be dead, it has been reported.

According to family members gathered at a hotel near the scene of the attack, which police are describing as a “hate crime”, the child was inside the Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church when a gunman opened fire.

Family members, who had reportedly been briefed by police, told ABC News that the shooter entered the church and briefly joined in a prayer meeting at around 9pm local time on Wednesday night, before standing up and shooting.

Shaun King, reporting for Daily Kos on the scene, said the carnage in Charleston was “beyond description”. “Career officers are describing it as the worst thing they’ve ever seen,” he said.

The fact that the child had the presence of mind to even do that is amazing and sad at the same time. I want to ask this asshole shooter, whom, exactly, is this little 5 year old kid "raping" and "taking over?" Since that was the justification for murdering the child in cold blood in the killer's own words.

cretins like this one doesn't deserve any sympathy. I hope he rots in a cell somewhere for a long time, 50, 60 years or more will be fine with me.

something good might possibly come of this evil. I may have watched too much Criminal Minds\Silence of the Lambs-type programming, but I was thinking that the FBI or some related agency studies serial killers to glean insights into what makes them tick.

and still run away.

The increase in white supremacy groups and gun ownership since Obama took office should not be overlooked.

<snip>
Remember the DHS report about Veterans being recruited to Right-Wing terrorist groups which was leaked and led newly appointed Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano to initially defending the report but later having to apologize and withdrawing the report after she was thrown under the bus by her own party (Bennie Thompson, Congressman from MS) & severely criticized by Republicans.

April 2009

The Washington Times released a story on April 14, 2009, that said, "The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in 'rightwing extremist activity,' saying the economic recession, the election of America's first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias."

The 9 page report, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment", was categorized as "unclassified // for official use only" but a number of news sources had posted it on their web sites.

The report also said that "Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines 'rightwing extremism in the United States' as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority."

Profiled groups could include "groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration."
