"Breathing a progressive political fire, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders ignited Colorado supporters with a blistering condemnation of billionaires and corporations, drawing a crowd of nearly 5,000 to Denver the largest of his Democratic presidential campaign since the May kickoff.
The 73-year-old Independent spoke for an hour and hit a nerve on economic issues as he advocated for an end to income inequality as well as a higher minimum wage, pay equity for women and more government spending on infrastructure."

(247 posts)This is very refreshing. His opinions are honest and true to himself, I don't think he relies on others to tell him what is safe to say.

(247 posts)and I don't think he works against anyone in the 99% no matter how strongly people try to convince me of that his history speaks the opposite.
He is on our side, not the 1% side. Can you say that is true of Hillary? I can't. I can't with a straight face believe for a moment that Hillary is on the 99% side and not the people of the 1% that have given her so much generosity of money to make the Clintons millionaires. I just can't.

(47,209 posts)To the ridiculously insulting one where people claim he is accused of being a racist? Because that also would be bullshit. Stop making shit up
SaranchaIsWaiting
(247 posts)That he isn't supportive of women? What exactly is your beef with him because he has been the opposite of what you claim.
I can only imagine what you are thinking if you don't tell me. You sound very upset so what Bernie did/does to women must be terrible. Please tell us what it is.

(47,209 posts)The article explains it pretty darned well- Sanders seems to gloss over race and gender while campaigning. While campaigning.
Get that part yet?

(247 posts)to you.
Not to me. When he talks about the 99% he talks about all of us. There is nothing sexist or misogynist or white male privileged or anything like that about Bernie, and that is what is getting the Hillary campaign twitchy.
I understand that. It will be a very hard blow to lose the primary, yet again.
I wish you and her luck. It will be needed because Bernice represents the 99%, that includes women, black women, white women, liberal women, conservative women, and he represents everyone else in that 99.
Hillary best represents and spent most of her career representing the 1%. You can't run from that. And I am sorry you are exhausting yourself trying to.

(51,076 posts)no bullshit just good old Bernie Sanders doing what he does best and thats telling the truth. That makes some nervous. Hillary doesn't do that and pretty much never have. Bernie does all day all the time.

(47,209 posts)Because I'm really sick of hearing people making these exagerrated claims.
I hope Bernie continues to run a more inclusive campaign, and signs seem to point that he will.
I think his remarks to those firemen were a misstep. I hope he thinks hard before presenting reproductive rights as less important than money, no matter who he is speaking to.
I have no illusions about any perfect candidate- so not shocked to see him pander to a room full of men. Politicians do things like that. It's part of the resin abortion is a dirty word these days.

(39,215 posts)important to them. And since Bernie has supported the social issues in the past there is no reason to believe that he will not continue. My mixed race family are all having a horrible time economically. We are poor, we have trouble keeping enough food on the table, some of us are homeless. Yes there is discrimination but I am sorry it is not the only issue that interests us.
I guess I will send all 28 names of my minority family to Bernie so each day he can mention them in his speech and assure us that he is speaking personally to us. Oh and I'll be sure to name all the women so he can be specific about their needs. For heavens sake - we understand that this country is falling to pieces and that the issues for women and minorities is not going to get better if we just let it collapse around our heads. The harder the times the more competition for the resources the more hatred exists. If we let the corporations take over. That is where my family is coming from. For the issues of discrimination we trust him because of his history. Look at the ratings of the NAACP and other groups. Anyone saying he has not represented women and minorities is lying.

(47,209 posts)I'm sorry he chose to invoke abortion as something to set aside thinking about. Clumsy at best. Sorry for expecting more.

(39,215 posts)already on the books for the federal laws. What is happening now is being done by the states. In my state we voted Democratic and we have our rights under federal law. But we cannot do anything about WI except donate to the Democrats running there. Which we can do if we have any money to do so. See back to the economics.
And I would like to ask you something. When we are talking about his support for minorities he has a higher rating by the NAACP than Hillary. What organization rates congress persons on women's issues? The way Hillary supporters are talking he should be at least near the bottom in their ratings. And I do not believe he is. I do not think that he has every not supported women's issues. Do you have that answer? What is his voting record on women's issues?

(247 posts)I was hoping you would have hard facts on how Bernie votes against women's interests. Like bills, or speeches made in an MRA tone.
There is one particular quote here that I find, ahem, interesting:
Bernie Sanders is not a standalone person for me, Blain said. He comes from a long line of mostly, but not exclusively, white male liberals that white liberals are very excited about, and they all never talk about people of color or racial justice. They all make purely class-based appeals.
Lol. What fricken bullshit that is. It's someone's feefees hurt that Hillary might not be the first woman President, so blame it on misogynist Bernie and all the evil white liberal males out there? I have heard this comic routine before, and it's still just as weak.

(247 posts)What is it, exactly, that Bernie has done that has caused harm to women? He has a very high rating from women's rights groups. Are they wrong and you are right? I think this is more hurtful and embarassing, what you are accusing a good man of, than some stupid urban dictionary word.
and they all never talk about people of color or racial justice -- is from that quote. ALL and NEVER. White Liberal Males. There are plenty of white liberal males here. You tell them that, make an OP and tell them they NEVER TALK ABOUT PEOPLE OF COLOR OR RACIAL JUSTICE.

(10,751 posts)...at the Town Hall meeting in Las Vegas.
He cited Republican "family values" as including wanting to prevent women from controlling their own bodies and also preventing them from having access to contraception. He talked about the high black youth unemployment, and said we need to stop spending so much money on incarceration and start spending more on education and start investing in our youth. He started with a moment of silence for the Charleston victims, and said racism is still a big issue in our society.
Also, the article is wrong in saying that Bernie does not address the issue of immigration. He very clearly stated that we need to have a path to citizenship for undocumented people in this country, and we need to stop breaking up families and using mass deportation as a policy.
Please watch the video posted in the Video & Multimedia section to verify. It is very frustrating to hear falsehoods spread about Bernie's message. Yes, he focuses strongly on the economic issues; no, he does not ignore race and gender issues. And don't forget, he was for gay marriage 20 years ago, when other liberal politicians were running from that issue like scared rabbits.

You want talk? Just listen to the Campaign rhetoric, but don't look at their history.
Anyone, eg, who supports war does not support Women or Minorities.
Yet they mouth the words, and where are we as a result of all those words?
He is far beyond the talkers. If you can't see that, I can't help you.
But THIS woman and every woman I know, is going to make sure he wins this election.
Btw, you didn't 'talk' about Gay Rights in your comment. The attacks on their Civil Rights very much in the news right now.
Should I take we can just agree to disagree that they are as important as women's rights?
Btw, when the Clinton Admin was denying Gay Rights, Bernie was among the few who had the guts to vote FOR them. He voted AGAINST DOMA.

(4,234 posts)the last paragraph of the article as usual ends with a snide comment from a Repub, the usual way of pandering to the usual malarkey of the Repubs:
In a statement, Colorado Republican Party Chairman Steve House "it's amusing to watch the self proclaimed socialist try to beat Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party's heir apparent. The fact is that Coloradans are sick and tired of Sen. Sanders and President Obama's agenda that has hurt Colorado's working families."
This would never wash if somebody tried to accuse Bernie of this to his face in a debate. Bernie would turn the comment around and use it to criticize the criticizer.
Do this for me Bernie: Destroy all the old lies of the Repubs and the bought media.
