Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC
I received this e-mail from Gabby Giffords and her husband:
The announcements section on the website of the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina promotes a "Bunny Hop" sponsored by the church school, an "Annual Health Fair," and a weekly bible study in the lower level of the church.
On Wednesday night, a gunman attended that bible study for almost one hour, pulled out a gun, and killed nine of the worshipers.
A five-year-old child escaped the shooting because she knew to play dead.
Once again, a senseless act of gun violence has visited one of America's houses of worship and left a community shattered. Once again, Americans are left to wonder when our country will say enough is enough, and when our leaders will do something to make us safer from gun violence.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Charleston -- as they remain with the people of Aurora, Newtown, Isla Vista, Navy Yard, Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, Milwaukee, Tucson, and far too many other communities across the country.
Today, please join us by signing our card and sharing your condolences and support with the people of Charleston, South Carolina, and the congregation at Emanuel A.M.E. Church. We'll deliver them to the church along with a personal message from both of us. http://action.americansforresponsiblesolutions.org/page/s/charleston?source=em150619-charleston&utm_medium=email&utm_source=gabbyandmark&utm_campaign=charleston
As President Obama said yesterday, "At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn't happen in other places with this kind of frequency. And it is in our power to do something about it."
It is in our collective power to act -- to mourn and stand with the Charleston community, and to convince our lawmakers in Congress and states across the country to do what it takes to make us safer from gun violence.
Thank you for joining us in both of those causes.

(13,071 posts)I am certain we can come up with answers. We just need to set aside the biases and work together to solve these significant issues.
But, it is time to stand up. We are frozen in our belief that nothing will work. It is time.

(14,337 posts)A gun gift from a relative, who has a CCW themselves, requires no background check for the gift recipient. Honor system? We trust you that your relative is responsible and COULD pass that background check. Really? I would call this Blind Faith.
We can see that "responsible gun owners" like Lanza's mother and Roof's father did not mean that their adult children were.

Could be it was.

(34,186 posts)None of the proposed federal gun laws after the Sandy Hook had any real chance of preventing the tragedy and that made them easier to defeat.
Maybe it will work this time.

(13,071 posts)instead of poo pooing all attempt to make it safer here, why not be part of the solution? We need to be creative.

(34,186 posts)I suspect the only way meaningful gun control will happen is if some brave politicians work with the NRA as we did after Virginia Tech.

(13,071 posts)And you can post a message to the victims of the Charleston massacre. You will need to donate to Giffords' PAC. I did!
