(59,511 posts)I personally knew Prosense and it was simply that she is extremely smart and because she organized the information that she had far better than I ever did -- meaning that as issues came up, she was able to find information she had used in the past to put together a complex, informative answer.

It seemed that she usually wasn't really responding to the specific issue raised, and had problems with details when drilling down into topics. But, she was persistent and systematic. I often got the sense when dialoging with her -- which I did occasionally -- that putting out a mass of talking points was more important to her than getting closer to the truth.
I never got a clue as to her race or ethnicity.
You are a far better advocate for your champion, and I always learn something from you. I hope you don't ever leave us.
karynnj
(59,511 posts)to stay, I stay. Maybe because it is the one environment, where I feel free to continue arguments until I have no more points that can be made. In real life, many times I stop far earlier for "peace in the community". On the other hand, I suspect that there might be less reason to advocate for anyone on line, after Obama leaves office. Now, I think it is important to counter the lies of the neocons/Netanyahu on Obama's Iran and Israeli policies. I think few on the left have considered how far from earlier US position, Obama/Kerry have been willing to go on Iran. Especially for Obama, this is an incredibly brave thing to do. However, as I said, I am addicted to this place.
I think that there was a trade off between how quickly and completely you could respond and whether the answer was tailored to address the specific point. I often learned a look from her links, but I had more time to write my own posts - as I was and am retired.
I know from talking to her that she is an intelligent, engaging person, who is intellectually curious and has thought about the issues very thoroughly. On line she was far more information oriented than in person, though we were all a pretty wonky group. I also think that she felt far more constrained about putting out any personal information about herself because she did not want anything to be tied to her real life identity. On this, she was not alone. When a group of us from the JK group met, several people spoke of this. It is an interesting dilemma, because the more you are willing to share of yourself, the more real you are -- but for people with jobs or in communities where their comments on somethings could affect them or their families, it is not a good idea to share too much.
leveymg
(36,418 posts)shift, but not in the way we no doubt both hope for.
I dread that the talks with Iran will turn out no better than than the "restaurant table" diplomacy JK had with Assad. It is clear to me that AIPAC and its venal minions in Congress will make a genuine settlement impossible. If the nuclear talks with Iran break off, that will give the hard-liners on both sides the cassus belli they have been trying to find for years, and no matter whether Hillary or a Republican is elected, we will be at war against Iran within a year of Inauguration Day.

As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing wrong with being a paid poster. It's a good idea I think. She got her message out very well and she stayed on message quoting facts. You're right, she didn't take the slams personally like most people would.

If this was a thread about Bernie Sanders, or even a thread about Hillary Clinton, I would understand the exchange above, and even agree with it. But outside the context of a political campaign, these comments are just bizarre; their implications frankly creepy.

(20,317 posts)I think my statement was clear. Just because you're for a candidate in a political race, does not mean you're obliged to adopt their personality and like all the same books they like. Supporting a candidate isn't like having a high school crush-- or at least, Steve, it shouldn't be.
This thread has nothing to do with any political campaign, so injecting Sanders into it, and insisting that his supporters should be acting like him, like you're assuming that anyone's chosen candidate must naturally be their personal messiah, is just plain creepy and bizarre.

The way PS never backed down from other posters challenging her, and refuted their points with the "blue links" was always entertaining to read through. Divisive group attack. Skinner is right--it's time for juries to crack down on jerk behavior.
JURY RESULTS

And, if true.. we'll have to see it first.. that wouldn't drive her away as suggested.. she's too strong a woman for that.
As we know.. it has been because her husband was so ill and I have heard that Obamacare came through for them in their crisis.
Number23
(24,544 posts)that she was some woman (I can't remember the name they were saying she was -- somebody Menendez or Hernandez?) when that wasn't who she was at all?
All of this crap has been going on for YEARS. The stalking, the name calling, the bullying. Even apparently on YouTube and other places. She couldn't post anything without all of this garbage, most of which came from lunatics that couldn't pat themselves on the back fast enough with how their objections to Obama were based on "principles and not personalities"!!!
And now that she's gone, these same folks have just turned their attention to others. It's funny watching them in this thread discreetly high fiving one another (see? Misery really DOES love company!) and pretending that calling imbeciles "imbecilic" is the same thing or even worse than those slamming an individual poster who may have left for a number of reasons, including being chased after FOR YEARS for the sole purpose of being driven away. Some of these folks around here. Calling them a "piece of sh..." er, I mean "work" would be an understatement.

Number23
(24,544 posts)some Senator's daughter, that she was a paid shill and the other idiocy.
And like I said, 9 times out of ten the folks who went out of their way to just badger this woman will also be the ones who magically had NO IDEA that she was black despite her saying it dozens of times and even signing her name to the Soul Scroll in the AA forum! Now, I know we didn't get every single black poster on this site but we did get Prosense (and a few of our paler brothers and sisters who made sure to designate themselves as such! )
But considering that most of the folks in Prosense's fan club have probably never been in the AA forum (our issues are too "divisive" you see and are used by the 1% to do....something) it wouldn't surprise me if they never saw that post at all. Or apparently any of the many other times she said she was AA.
I had somebody do that to me once. I said something to Catwoman about her being black, I can't remember exactly what it was, and some person comes flying out of nowhere to scream "I didn't know Catwoman was black!! How did you know??!1one" and keep in mind, this woman has noted about a THOUSAND TIMES that she was black and even posted a beautiful, heart breaking thread about losing her daughter complete with a picture of her stunning BLACK daughter. It never ceases to amaze me the folks that because someone says that they're black doesn't mean anything to them that it shouldn't mean anything to anyone else either.

(38,187 posts)the username looks like something those Conservative Cave people use to refer to Democrats on DU. That is just a guess though. I don't know. I might be wrong. The username on Youtube is something DU dummy or something like that. I can't remember.
I looked it up when I saw that post and I wish I hadn't. I didn't make it to the end of the video. I was expecting something else entirely.
We all joked with her about the blue links and stuff, but she laughed at those jokes too at lot of times. Not everyone who makes the blue links jokes means it to be mean, just astounded that she can manage to pull so much research up like that and joking with her not at her expense.
So, I expected it would be a blue link joke in the video and not much else. I was way wrong. What I saw in that video was really disgusting. I'll look it back up and post the link, if you still want to see it even after knowing how vile it is, but it really is sickening.
Let's put it this way: I wish I hadn't looked it up, to be honest, but if you want the link, I will look it up again and post it. I just wanted you to be forewarned about the content before just throwing the link out there.

It isn't until I read the thread wondering who was taking such an obvious joke so seriously that I realized it wasn't a joke. It just seemed so ridiculous. (16,380 posts)And she had little patience for people who didn't do their home work. Or at least did it from a different book them she was studying from.
I must say however the cognitive dissonance in this thread is rather thick.
The thread is asking about where Prosense has been and by in large has turned into a screed about how awfuls the Bernie Sanders supporters are on DU or pick any other DUer you may have a problem with to trash. So DU.
Pretty ironic. And I have to say some around here have irony meters that could use a check up.

(35,992 posts)We've had one or two messy incidents where a host will alert, then lock with little to no discussion with other hosts, then as in one recent case, lock the OP in the hosts forum so there can't be any discussion of the lock. So most hosts don't alert except in LBN on dupes.
I don't think it was the OP's intention, but this thread is so totally bringing back memories of Meta. I think Skinner should just bite the bullet and bring that forum back and lock a few folk in there so they can't get out into GD with their drama wafting around them....

Disgraceful behavior here from some usual suspects and others I did not expect.
I think peer pressure, group think, and alert stalking are making it hard to stay here.
Over the last 2 weeks I added many members to my ignore list. I just expanded it again after the uglyness of this thread.
I hate using ignore and I know I won't use it for too long but for now it is the only way to help remove the uglyness.
earthside
(6,960 posts)My experience with 'Pro Sense' was that it was this kind of ugliness that she engendered.
This is DU, an anonymous political blog site ... almost all of the time the real lives of the participants is unknowable and irrelevant. And ... that is fine and allows for uninhibited freedom of expression.
I have a lot of tolerance here -- I have never put anyone on ignore (if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen).
In my estimation this is an interesting thread because 'Pro Sense' made herself so omnipresent and so disliked, so much of the time; we all get to express ourselves on the subject here.
'Pro Sense' was intolerant in her political views and arrogant in her replies when challenged -- the very things that make DU sometimes dark and mean.

For people who consider themselves humanitarian, peace loving people - some liberals are the most vile, nasty assholes I've ever come across. The hate some can inflict on one person for seemingly disagreeing with them is absolutely astonishing - especially when it's a regular ol' citizen. Some on DU, in that regard, are just as bad as the right-wing trolls out there.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
No matter our collective faults on DU, to compare fellow DUers to right-wing trolls is just nasty and over-the-top.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Jun 22, 2015, 03:46 PM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: if the shoe fits ...
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If the shoe fits - look (and be) ashamed. No DUer (so Leave It) was named but the insult fits more than one DUer.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Nasty? Over the top? Sounds like a rather accurate description of some of the posters here these days.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This does not name any names, and there is truth in this post. There are some hateful people here. If you feel as if this is addressing you, maybe you should rethink things that you say here.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Agree with the one who alerted.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

(45,319 posts)Sanders. Or Martin O'Malley. Or Hillary Clinton. Because while she and I don't always agree, to put it mildly, I know she's an ardent Democrat and a person who cares greatly about this country and the world.
I hope she and hers are well and that she's enjoying seeing another contentious and attractive batch of Democrats running for the nomination.

(11,641 posts)We disagreed a lot but that doesn't matter. She fought hard for what she believed and I respect that.

(19,240 posts)Which explains the sanders enthusiasm. But the dogpile on Hillary is giving her back her underdog status at least among Dems. by this fall, being pro Hillary will be a very gutsy stance at DU.

(298,146 posts)more Value than any of the ragers who accused her of being a paid operative and personally insulted her endlessly.
Number23
(24,544 posts)who are the biggest shit stirring, stalking asses on this web site. Who follow people from thread to thread to thread for the sole purpose of talking shit and bringing up people's personal business in an effort to criticize them while pretending that they are somehow "above" the exact same crap that they have been called out REGULARLY for. And they do this crap, not for a few weeks or months -- for YEARS. It would genuinely be funny if it wasn't symptomatic of something deep and serious.
This thread should be bookmarked by the admins. NOTHING encapsulates some of the crap that goes on around here better.
Cha
(298,146 posts)clue they're saying everything about themselves and absolutely nothing about our lovely ProSense.

(62,287 posts)BLUE LINKS. OMG. Someone actually supporting their position with citations! OMG!
Yes sometimes she interpreted stuff wrongly or posted red herrings but 90% of the time it was on the mark. And she and I have had our disagreements and she'd agree with me on that.
But BLUE LINKS. OMG. THE LIST. OMG.
Such anti-intellectualism I see around these parts. :sigh:
Number23
(24,544 posts)tangle of "blue links" that were usually COMPLETELY irrelevant to the thread and topic at hand. These same folks that called Prosense Linkasaurus Rex (remember that charming bit of juvenile stupidity?) and other names could not clap hard enough or rush to "+1" his posts fast enough. I haven't seen that person around for a while (and truly have not missed them) but the two-faced hypocrisy surrounding his BLue LINKS!!1 BLue LinkS!!1 and Prosense's was just nonsensical.
I don't know if it's anti-intellectualism or what. But I notice this same crowd howls at the moon whenever someone posts a thread with the poll standings of the current crop of Democratic challengers. So maybe it's not so much "anti-intellectualism" as it is that anything that conflicts with their preconceived notions of truth must be immediately negated.
Btw, nice to see you Josh! I don't know if you've been away but I haven't seen you in a while. I take breaks from time to time myself. One day, I'll be able to have a good answer to myself for why I don't just make those breaks permanent.

(62,287 posts)Because 90% of their links were propaganda. Nice to see you too! Haven't been posting as much lately.

(21,210 posts)one has to wonder.
I've had my disputes with her, but she did have all sorts of links and info that would take time to research on a variety of topics, so it does make one wonder how someone could be so knowledgeable on almost every topic that was presented each and every day?

I won't stick around to elaborate, but since no one seems to know this, I figured I'd share what I know.
Good luck.
