Rep Chumley: SC Victims "Waited Their Turn To Be Shot"

South Carolina state Rep. Bill Chumley (R) told CNN he thinks the nine victims of a shooting in a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina, "waited their turn to be shot."

Chumley was defending the use of the Confederate flag at the South Carolina capitol grounds when he made the remarks, blaming "misuse and miseducation of the flag" for the debate over its use. Chumley argued access to guns, not the Confederate flag, is what South Carolina lawmakers should be focusing on in the aftermath of the massacre.

"These people sat in there and waited their turn to be shot," Chumley said. "That's sad. Somebody in there with a means of self-defense could've stopped this."

The whole point of that church was peace and peaceful resistance.

They were Christians who got the point.

Chumley has obviously never read all the way through that book he's fond of battering other people with.

The last thing anyone would have brought to that church was a gun.

Well, except for a white BIGOT who blamed black folks for the fact that he was such a loser.

What Chumley is spewing is just standard-issue Blame The Victim idiocy, the disgusting sort of thing we see from gun militants and their political mouthpieces after every mass shooting. I hope Chumley has enough decency to not show up at the services, tomorrow; he doesn't deserve to attend them.

which I agree with. And, every time the tragedy came up people I know whose heart is definitely in the right place - wondered the same thing - Why someone couldn't have overtaken him when he reloaded - so Chumley really just expressed what people wonder in private - albeit an extremely crude and insensitive way of saying it. Chumley may be a rabid bigot - but don't have the desire to look up more about him.
