(38,354 posts)Needless to say, Kristol was destroyed. But he didn't seem to know what had hit him, like some smiling bloody shocked survivor of a car accident who'd just been reassured his insurance was golden, even though he was at fault.
Kristol is either a regressive moron or, generously, a media news "personality" typecast in a Frank Burns role.
I'm pretty sure Kristol is a regressive moron.

(1,261 posts)White Americans outside the South, Asian Americans, Latino-Americans, Native Americans, etc. may not relate to the concept that the Confederate Battle flag represents slavery...or even an affront to the Civil Rights Movement.
...but it should represent an Enemy Force to all US citizens. The Confederacy was a NATION that had it's own:
1) President
2) Congress
3) Constitution
4) Ambassadors
5) Currency
6) Capital City
...and this Nation:
1) Killed and estimated 360,00 US soldiers. https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Union_Army
2) Wounded an estimated 280,000 US soldiers. https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Union_Army
3) Invaded the US via the VA/MD border on Sept 4th, 1862 (http://mdscv.org/1398/river%20crossing.htm) and killed or wounded over 12,000 Americans(http://www.nps.gov/anti/learn/historyculture/casualties.htm) before being pushed back by patriotic US soldiers.
You don't have to be Black to understand why this flag and Confederate "heroes" should never be praised on US soil. The Viet Cong, Nazis, Imperial Japanese Navy, King George III, and all combined terrorist organizations did less harm to the America. Even the US's racists should be disgusted by any honor a confederate receives on US soil.

It has been 150 years since the Civil War officially ended, but take a trip to certain regions in the South and you may get a different impression. Especially since last week's shooting in South Carolina, the Confederate battle flag has become an iconic and often unwelcome reminder that race relations in the US still face a staggering uphill battle. But some people still wave the flag with pride, and Georgetown University law professor Paul Butler has some words for those people.
On a Monday episode of "The Diane Rehm Show," a caller said her Confederate ancestors deserved respect, even though the Confederate flag represented "racial hatred." To which Butler replied:
I have no respect for your ancestors. As far as your ancestors are concerned, I shouldn't be a law professor at Georgetown. I should be a slave. That's why they fought that war. I don't understand what it means to be proud of a legacy of terrorism and violence.
Last week at this time, I was in Israel. The idea that a German would say, you know, that thing we did called the Holocaust, that was wrong, but I respect the courage of my Nazi ancestors. That wouldn't happen.
The reason people can say what you said in the United States, is because, again, black life just doesn't matter to a lot of people.

(17,199 posts)(W) THIS is one of the best comments left by one of our fans:
"l I'm related to three different Nazis (one great-great uncle and some distant cousins). Can you imagine the outcry if I went around waving their flag around and said how "It's not anti-Semitic, it's my heritage!"? And the reaction would be completely justified. But in this case, it's "just heritage", a heritage that enslaved an entire group of people. Yes, it IS your heritage, but it is not something to be fucking proud of! People are so hypocritical sometimes, it's infuriating." - Donna J.D.
