I would like to inform mr. scalia that mr pete & i, having met and loved as flower children/hippies in the Summer of 1970 (on the beach, barefoot, I might add) are happy and thriving free-thinkers 42 years later.

(6,409 posts)There is an old horror movie called "They Saved Hitler's Brain." In fact, they saved the whole head, and we get to see Hitler's head riding around in a glass jar full of some kind of fluid. I'm not certain what happened to the rest of the head, but now we know where the brain is.

(3,433 posts)He states that the constitution must be adhered to word for word with an interpretation which takes into consideration the understanding and culture of the time when the laws were written rather than modern culture and society. Yet judicial review is not spelled out in the constitution. It was inferred.
Concerning DOMA he stated: "we have no power under the Constitution to invalidate this democratically adopted legislation." Yet he saw no issue with nullifying the voting rights act. In that same dissent today he commented that SCOTUS does not represent the religious demographic of this country because there are no evangelical Christians or protestants of "any denomination." For someone who professes strict interpretation, how is it that he questions the religious belief of his fellow justices? The first amendment prevents legislation which promotes any religion. It prevents any legislation which uses religion as justification. Even if we ignore the fact that he is a gigantic hypocrite for even sitting on the bench, the religious belief of a judge could never be a consideration for a decision as it is a blatant violation of the constitution. The man is a lesson in willing and unrepentant cognitive dissonance. I do not understand what Justice Ginsberg sees in him. Her "Nino" is a gigantic ass clown.

(33,667 posts)"I think he's slagging gays and hippies," said Crosby, who had earlier appeared on Huff Post Live. "I don't think he understands either one. I think he's an old reactionary guy and I think he's failing to understand the basic thing: hippies and gay people are people. And we are citizens. And we live here. And we are his neighbors. He may not know that, but we are. And that's how he should see us. As citizens of the United States. Voters. People who should be equal. That was the idea of the country. Not 'maybe.' There's no 'if' about that, no gray area there. The idea was that people would be equal here -- all of us. Hippies and gay people included. Black people, white people, yellow people -- all people. People."

I suspect it's Jerry Brown and Arnold Schwarzenegger Scalia is having steamy nightmares about.
