Perhaps today's decision is better than we can imagine.

From the comments section of an article on today's decision in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/27/us/supreme-court-same-sex-marriage.html?emc=edit_na_20150626&nlid=57435284&ref=cta&_r=1

This decision is more far reaching than is apparent. While it recognizes the legitimacy of same sex marriages and relationships, it also dismisses as invalid the implicit argument that religious values may dictate public policy to limit what the public may decide to do with respect to secular institutions. It reaffirms the separation of church and state, which a lot of cultural conservatives oppose with deep animosities.

It may be a stretch, but we can hope that this is the case.

This decision will have far-reaching effects. The public reaction to today's decision has proven that, for me.

Tolerance and acceptance are wonderful. Those of the church would be wise to try it sometime.

I really hope to see major focus on undoing the harm that's been done against abortion rights and access.

Bible is not a valid basis for secular law. Deal with it.

I have not read today's opinion. However, I did read the Windsor decision, the first SCOTUS decision on this issue. It seemed to me that Kennedy (and/or his clerks) went out of his way to put gems of language into the Windsor opinion that lower courts could use for equal marriage or almost any issue of equality.

Theoretically, the SCOTUS is supposed to issue narrow opinions. But, I am so glad Kennedy pissed off Scalia in that regard In Windsor. I am glad Kennedy seems to have gone "rogue" on the church v. state issue as well.
