General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo, how many other DUers are hung over this morning after a night of celebrating?
I went out about 11pm. Just about an hour later than normal for the gay community
We, unlike the straight community, kiss and hug each other as a regular greeting. Sometimes I forget myself and give a coworker or friend a hug and/or kiss. They're used to it now.
But last night was just so filled with love. Love everywhere! Tears, cheers, singing, dancing, etc. Ended up at my favorite, lucky bar, The Closest. The oldest lesbian bar in Chicago. Though just like so many places, it's usually filled with men. (Those gay guys just love to take over the bars )
After some shots of Patron and a tequila sunrise or two last night, I'm surprised I am even awake.
How many of you celebrated?

(17,997 posts)As funny as that is, in all seriousness, one of the best things that will come out of this is no one can stop a spouse from visiting in the hospital ever again. That humiliating, horrible part of inequality for same sex couples is forever GONE!

(27,670 posts)The closest LGT bar is 100+ miles away, in Phoenix, so that made it easy to be good last night.
We have a room near Pride for tonight, so today and tonight could be record breakers.

Don't get too drunk tonight. You want to be able to make it to the Parade Sunday! They're all going to be absolutely off the hook!

(32,160 posts)so I am guilty of playing on Facebook with the other invalids/introverts Rainbow profiles, rec'ing all the good articles, so happy for friends who now have the legal rights they deserve.
Here in TX the history legally is as follows: In 1997, Texas banned the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Additional legislation in 2003 forbade the recognition of any same-sex marriages or civil unions. In 2005, voters approved a referendum that added those restrictions to the Texas Constitution.
Had a good friend here in Houston decide to move to San Fran in 2005 after that referendum. The bigotry has been mind-numbing and I am so glad we can now just say "marriage" and remove all the qualifiers.
I'm sorry that you couldn't go outside to play but yay for you spreading the joy!
I'm sorry about your friend. Now, if they want, they can come home.
Texas will adjust. It's already happening in parts.

It's going to be nuts. Pink Party tonight and the parade tomorrow. Thump thump!

(103 posts)I think I'll be near the corner where the parade turns from Diversey to Broadway. One of my friends is near there. We brought a couch last year! It might be making another appearance! I probably won't be able to speak after.

(17,997 posts)The only time I have been that far toward the end was when I was in the parade. That was a blast all by itself. It was 2013 and we rode with Equality Illinois. What fun since it was one of the most applauded floats
Have a great day!

Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Most Buck-Wild Pride Parade Nations Ever Seen
WASHINGTONFollowing decades of debate over the constitutional right to same-sex marriage, the U.S. Supreme Court today handed down a 5-4 ruling in favor of the most buck-wild, balls-to-the-wall gay pride parade this country has ever seen. After reviewing the constitutional underpinnings of this case, the court finds that it is discriminatory for states to deny the right to the most out-of-control, bonkers gay pride parade that anyone could possibly imagine, Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote in his majority opinion, which outlined at length the elaborate floats, billowing rainbow flags, and phalanxes of outlandishly dressed participants, barely scratching the surface of how completely bananas things are about to get. This decision confirms what should be obvious: The government cannot prevent a nonstop bacchanal surging through the streets of every American city. Were talking half-naked lesbians covered in body paint, rollerblading homosexuals in brightly colored Native American headdresses and sparkling gold briefs, as well as hundreds of thousands of supporters losing their fucking minds while I Will Survive blares at 150 decibels. This is going to be an absolute shit show. The Supreme Courts landmark decision was reportedly appended by a concurring opinion authored by Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor in which she agreed that the right to an uninterrupted three-day batshit insane rager was mandated by the U.S. Constitution.

(5,435 posts)It was an uplifting night all the way around, and when talking to assorted friends and cohorts, i would randomly get all teary-eyed, and they'd think there was something wrong...
Nope...
Just my awkward, dykey, dorky teenaged-self peeking out with utter astonishment and disbelief at the progress LGBT people like me have made in this long, deliberate march toward equality.
This was not the last battle... but damn it, this was a BIG one.
