Sounds like a dumb question and may be, but I do notice a parallel.

I did know some religious right vegetarians (Eden's diet, yanno) when I sold health foods.

(21,675 posts)critters in the veggies. somebody on my block is feeding peanuts to the squirrels, which is all well and good, but they hide them (and subsequently dig them up) in my raised veggie beds. they also ate all of the bean seeds that i planted....
so no go this year....but i have harvested some tomatoes that are planted in large pots, so there's that.

(4,959 posts)Overall, I think it is more of a rural vs urban thing. Growing vegetables isn't a partisan political thing. People have been doing it for what, 6,000 years or more?
Having lived in rural and suburban areas, I know tons of conservative folks with vegetable gardens.

(35,842 posts)Aren't there more conservatives in rural areas? I think there are probably more gardeners in rural areas, simply because they have the space. We definitely know liberals tend to be in cities.
I did a little search on it, but couldn't find anything definitive.
It's an interesting question, because even if conservatives are more rural, a liberal can still grow plants on a balcony or outside a single-family home in a suburb of a city.

(12,037 posts)Conservative TX, more likely.
If you're in an urban area, which is more likely to be liberal, you can't grow your own vegetables.

(17,049 posts)I live in a town house ten minutes from downtown Austin and I grow alot of veggies and herbs! I have pots and my herbs grow in my kitchen window.
As of right now I have:
Tomatoes
Bell peppers ( 2 varieties)
Serrano peppers
green onions
green beans
carrots
avocados
herbs:
Cilantro
Basil
dill weed
chives
It's not that hard actually. My peppers are looking good too!

(1,713 posts)doesn't hurt that upstate anything will grow like a weed, we get so much rain here!
My second year down here and I'm still astonished at how fast everything grows, it's like the grounds is made of Miracle-Gro. One week is all it takes for a fresh-cut lawn to be overgrown again.
