Yesterday, my cousin came out

He's still in his teens and was scared for a long time. Yesterday, after seeing all of the congratulations, celebrations and well wishes from the big announcement he decided he felt comfortable enough to come out to his family and friends-on Facebook. Some of us offered him any support he could ever need while others chose not to even acknowledge his post. I guess that's life.

What does this have to do with any of you? I'd like to thank each and every one of you who posted on social media yesterday about the subject. I'd like to thank you all for wishing well, for changing profile pictures to rainbows or equality symbols or anything that showed you as identifying as a member of the community. (This would be as LGBTQ or as an ally-thanks.) For everyone that posted yesterday you did more than you realize. You might have made a young man, young woman or even someone a bit older realize that support is out there and that it's ok to be whoever they are. Even if you don't know anyone who has come out recently you all helped to make a difference by showing that others can be who they were born to be, they would be loved and accepted even if not by people they actually knew.

Thank you.

I just knew. It wasn't a big deal to me but I knew he wasn't ready-until yesterday.

I'm just glad he has support.

Can I post this on FB? I have a LOT of friends who are supporters and gay; I think this would mean a lot. And good for him; he has lots of friends and allies out here!

I don't have a problem with it. I would ask that you keep my user name and location private but I don't have a problem with an actual link.

My Facebook feed yesterday was full of Rainbow flags and rainbow faces. What a wonderful day.

Thanks for sharing!

Good for your Cousin!
It is now safer times for Gays, I hope. I'm 68 and didn't think this would happen in my lifetime.

They'd known since he was five.

He was so relieved it didn't matter to them.
