I would like to know more. Traditionally, staff of individual legislators don't make much money. They are the young, eager beaver people who are there one of two sessions before moving on to other stuff, often their own political careers. The staff positions are not for the big money, but for the learning opportunity. Then there are the committee staff positions, which are considered longer term professional positions, not tied to a particular legislator or party. These people tend to be researchers, statisticians, etc. and often have advanced degrees in related fields. They get paid a living wage, which would be close to six figures in Alaska. If legislative staff are dragging down $80k and up, something is wrong. If committee staff are making $80k, they probably need a raise.
