(9,527 posts)I don't think Sanders can win the primary much less the general election and yet I don't feel any need to denigrate or insult those who are supporting Sanders.
Trumad goes about trying to be deliberately provocative and sometimes gets burned for it. It happens to others as well, including a long term Bernie Sanders supporter recently.

(99,719 posts)Hastert was a pedophile, period. I suspect Trumad would agree if he was here.
Also, the internet is a blunt medium. Not much room for nuance and it's easy to be misinterpreted... That's why I try to be uber cautions when discussing race, gender, and sexuality.
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)That was NOT trumad's meaning. He is 100% in favor of marriage equality and certainly does not equate sexual identity with child abuse. FAIL.
Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)The words he typed said money paid to cover up a teacher abusing a minor student was paid to 'cover up being gay'. That is an equation of the two. If he did not mean it that way it would be very easy to clarify. That particular slur is not something to play with.
That post surprised me and bothered me.

But any gay person that takes offense, is fine by me. FFS, there is so much to be offended by from millions of homophobic nutjobs, it could cause a stroke.
I wish the obssessed's 'I just love watching this dirty movie I'm imagining' crew would get their damn minds out of other people's underwear and private lives. Their trying to control the lives of others is a hobby, a luxury of those with too much time on their hands and a sheltered existence.
Most people know we all need allies and help in this life, why take a dump on any person who might help you survive?

(5,815 posts)And one of the hides leading to his current vacation.
I don't think he meant it as it read, but given the LGBT community's history of having our sexuality contextually connected to sexual abuse and children, even peripheral linking of the two is highly frowned upon, and many of us are sensitive to it.
I think, but cannot seem to find, he posted a clarification afterwards.
Edit: Yeah, he apologized and clarified here. He thought the student involved was a consenting adult.

REASON FOR ALERT

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
The post is self-explanatory.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Jul 3, 2015, 10:56 AM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

(29,257 posts)Some people try to play with the system by alert stalking. That's what happens.
People that are vocal, like Trumad, like Seabeyond, like Cali, like myself pickup supporters as well as haters.
Some of the haters follow you around and alert on everything hoping to get a jury that happens to be filled with others that are like-minded -NOT related to the post, but related to that poster in general.
Orrex
(63,291 posts)You're still absolutely correct that people tend to hide the poster rather than the post, at least in some cases.
Only one of seabeyond's current hides seems reasonable to me, and only two of cali's. That's not to say that I consider myself an authority, but if I'd been on those juries instead of one of the "Hide" votes, they wouldn't be on time-out.
Bonobo
(29,257 posts)But what else is Skinner going to say except "There's no such thing."
No, it exists. Use your common sense. With all the anger here, of COURSE there are people that do that.
It's obvious, I think.
Orrex
(63,291 posts)We don't know how many non-hide alerts are called on these posters.
We don't know who is alerting on those posters.
We don't know how many of those non-Hide alerts are sincere.
We don't know who is serving on those juries.
We don't know how many of those Hide verdicts are sincere.
Lacking this information, we are not in a position to make objective statements of fact about it.
Absent compelling evidence to the contrary, "common sense" is subordinate to data to which we have no access. Other than anecdote-based guesswork, on what firm basis do you conclude that you or they are being Alert-Stalked?
pintobean
(18,101 posts)That change was made some time back. Admin posted about it on Discussionist quite a while ago, saying they made that change on both sites. It was also mentioned in ATA not long ago.
It appears they want people's reputations to be considered by jurors.
Orrex
(63,291 posts)I have a handful of people on Ignore, but I haven't blacklisted anyone, so I don't know if it's still in effect.
It's tricky, though. A DUer might ignore someone because that person is abusive, or because that person is simply annoying. I'm not convinced that Ignoring someone renders that person incapable of serving on one's jury.

(9,002 posts)Some of our more abrasive members tend to not get the benefit of the doubt when a post is sent to jury.
Not speaking directly to these three people but I know recently there was a sub about alert stalking or something and how some hide or another was uncalled for (and direct proof that the juries are being packed by my enemies!) - that hidden post, taken in a vacuum was uncalled for; that hidden post, taken in context with the long subthread absolutely should have been hidden.
