Stanton alumni and friends were out in force this past weekend, celebrating their every-five-year-homecoming event, this year called Good Things Happen At Home. It began on Thursday with an ice cream social, bingo and old car display on Broad Avenue. As darkness fell that night, an estimated 250 people strolled through old Mamrelund Cemetery to hear the stories of 12 spirits from the past.

Friday was a day for feasting, as there were burgers and hot dogs at the Stanton Care Center at noon and steaks grilled by the Cattlemen at the Viking Center in the evening. An outdoor stage show followed, featuring The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallonquist, portrayed by Chris Palmquist. His guests were several current and former well-known Stanton residents, including U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst and a special visit from Danny Feld, the son of actress Virginia Christine, who was born in Stanton in 1920 and passed away in 1996. Many remember Christine as spokeswoman for Folgers Coffee for more than 28 years on TV. Feld spoke of his mothers abiding love for her hometown, and said that he always feels especially close to her when he visits here. At the end of the show, spectators flooded onto the football field to dance the traditional Seven Jumps.
The evening concluded with a street dance and celebration of the 40th anniversary of Virginia Abrahams White City Inn on Broad Avenue.
