As is readily apparent by the video, released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Sandra Bland was pulled over, when she witnessed a cop coming up behind here, to allow him to pass by. Instead, he pulled her over for failure to put on her turn signal and was going to give her a "warning" ticket - until she refused to put out her cigarette.
A YouTube video, at time-stamp 25:01 minutes through to 27:00 minutes mark - is visibly doctored!

Officer Claimed Kick Isn't on Video

[br]
Significance about the video (and others now emerging - that should be questioned), is the fact that the (purported) kick happened at a time the officer dragged Sandra Bland - off camera. From what any listener can gather, she is screaming about the pain the officer is causing her and his touching her. His subsequent remarks to supervisors, is far from being totally candid about what actually happened. He makes it sound as if she was out of control, from the outset; which is extremely bogus.

The Officer escalated the whole affair, when he asked her to put out her cigarette!

[br]
Plain to see, the officer was looking to start something, hinting that Sandra appeared nervous. When he asked her for details, she told him that she pulled over, to allow him to pass and getting a ticket for such was nerve wracking. Then he asked her to put out her cigarette, she complained it was inside her car and the officer blew everything out of control.
Additionally, the apparent looping/editing of the video is during his story telling to superiors and, though others may argue the video loops, while the conversation remains steady - I'm not convinced this is true.
IMO the video is looped (doctored) so that the officer can change his story telling and/or hide something said!

If They Can Edit Any - They Can Edit All
[br]
Finally, there's another video that is now available for the public. A new video has emerged of the authorities and ambulance crew purportedly removing Sandra Bland from the holding cell.
First of all, the officer that looks into the camera and waves his arms, is an absolute enigma. Secondly (now that we have clear evidence films are being doctored) how do we know that this wasn't staged.
Where is the tape of the actual discovery of Sandra Bland?
Why is there now contradicting reports of hanging - that is being switched to suffocated by plastic bag?
AND
What about the video for the hours from her arrest - to the point of the discovery of the incident?

Something smells very rotten here!

(7,805 posts)It appears the 2 officers are communicating; but I think we can't hear them - due to arresting officer's mic is out of range.

1st she was hung in her jail cell.
Now she is reportedly suffocated by plastic bag.
Where'd she get the frigg'n bag?

(12,869 posts)Should be a video of that.

(6,342 posts)I have read elsewhere (and I have no idea if this is true) that the camera is actually motion-activated. In other words it won't record unless it detects motion. If that's true, that would explain why there is missing time on that video. For example, 5 hours could pass but there may only be 20 minutes of video because that's the only times the camera detected motion. It could also be malfunctioning.
Im not saying that it definitely wasn't tampered with, but there may be a legit reason why time is missing on that.
The dashcam video, I don't know how those work. Can they be turned off? Can they be tampered with? etc.. I don't know the answers to that.

(36,988 posts)According to the Texas Tribune, her death was eerily similar to the 2012 case of James Harper Howell IV, a white man from nearby Bandera. Howell, 29, was arrested for felony marijuana possession, trying to run away in a car, and assaulting an officer. After a week in Waller County jail, he was found hanging from a bed sheet tied to a ceiling vent, the Houston Chronicle reported at the time.

James Harper Howell IV, of Bandera, was found about 11:55 a.m. hanging from a bed sheet that was tied to a ceiling vent in one of the jail's day rooms, according to the Waller County Sheriff's Office.
It took deputies three days to locate and notify Howell's next of kin.
Deputies said Howell had been in custody since he was arrested Oct. 25 by the Department of Public Safety for assault on a public servant, evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and possession of marijuana, a felony.
On the day he was found hanging, he had been sitting in the day room by himself watching television. Jailers had routinely checked on him. He spoke with jailers and gave no indication he would engage in suicidal behavior.

One more new detail - for over 100 years white undertakers do not pick up African American bodies in that town. That suddenly changed here according to CNN (this morning)

(3,732 posts)Is it being used on Black Twitter?
I haven't seen it being used even though she was hung.
The word "lynched" should be used here. An uppity black woman who was essentially stalked and framed gave backtalk. For that she was pulled out of her car, put through a violent "encounter with authority", jailed, and ultimately...LYNCHED. Race had everything to do with this.
I'm very surprised not to see a revival of protests in my area, which has been very volatile with support for #BLM as a movement.

(5,586 posts)What would be the point of editing that portion of the video?
laserhaas
(7,805 posts)It is the audio that is being edited...that's why no c.f. oncern was being paid to the obvious video faux pas,s.
He's obviously twisting the truth in his details of the story and may have said a fact, lie or words that really are bad
laserhaas
(7,805 posts)And it is the audio (where the officer is lying to justify the arrest) - that is the key.

(19,497 posts)The FBI is assisting in the investigation. They have real professionals, competent people who know the technical details and can speak to facts, not lurid fantasies.
Tell us --
What model dashcam is being employed?
Does it record continuously or only at set times?
If the latter what causes it to start or stop recording?
Does it record to tape or hard drive?
Where was the recording taken for processing?
What was the chain of custody?
Does the dashcam track time usage in addition to time stamping recorded material to allow comparison?
If the DPS is willing to state the police violated "the departments procedures regarding traffic stops" why would it not be credible with regards to the integrity of the tape?
Sandra Bland deserves justice, not histrionic tripe.

Nuclear Unicorn
(19,497 posts)that your OP is based on nothing of substance. You have no technical or evidentiary basis upon which to make your claim.
And if/when the FBI comes back saying the recording was not altered you'll throw them into the conspiracy pile rather than concede your allegations have no merit. It's how you do business. It's why you've been tossed out of numerous courts as a vexatious litigant.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)Specifically how it was converted from the recording format to the publication format is worth knowing.
laserhaas
(7,805 posts)jberryhill
(62,444 posts)Because of the way that video and audio streams are processed separately during format conversion, I'd like to know more about how the video went from the recording device to publication.
Yes, krufty conversion software can make a hash out of the video while rendering continuous audio.
The allegation here is that the video has been "edited" instead of screwed up during format conversion. The thing is, the audio is continuous through parts where the video jumps to out of synch portions.
So, are you saying that someone simply chopped up the video and dubbed in entirely different audio?
You are saying it has been "doctored". I am saying that the published video is clearly not accurate. I understand why you believe those are the same two things, but they are not.

I wouldn't focus on the cigarette thing because the cop said "Do you mind putting out your cigarette please if you don't mind?" By itself that seems pretty reasonable because you might not want smoke in your face.
Everything about this is sickening. I haven't watched everything but I've seen too many things like this.

(7,805 posts)She did and that pointed out (in round about terms) - that he was an arsehole.
Then, he couldn't let it go - as a professional who is required to mitigate - NOT instigate.
That's when he asked her to put it out - when all he had to do, to end the issue, was simply say I'm giving you a
warning ticket.
Instead, no matter who gets the blame, a woman is dead, after an escalated arrest - for a warning ticket.
