GOP Strategists Plot to Ban Donald Trump From Debates

It's from a "rightwing" rag so I won't link to it, but this could get rather interesting....

"One idea that came up was to urge three leading candidates — Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor; Mr. Walker; and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida — to band together and state that they would not participate in any debate in which Mr. Trump was present, using his refusal to rule out a third-party bid as a pretext for taking such a hard line.

The thinking, according to a Republican involved in the conversations, was that the lesser-funded prospects who have been eclipsed by Mr. Trump would follow suit, and the TV networks airing the debates would be forced to bar Mr. Trump in order to have a full complement of candidates."

This would explode in their faces with the force of a goddamn nuke. Bush, Walker, and Rubio shunning Trump would feed his persecution complex, drive up his poll numbers, and increase the likelihood that he runs as a third-party next fall.

They won't do this. They won't do anything remotely approaching this.

Maybe the Republicans preach to empty chairs, because they think that since most of their brains are in their asses, some of it will seep in when they sit down.

...what's good the Party is not good for any one candidate. Essentially it's a prisoner's dilemma problem: "what if -I- drop out and my opponent doesn't"?

“If Donald Trump wants to run on a platform of demonizing immigrants, then he should go back to the 1840s and run for the nomination of the Know Nothing Party,” O’Malley said earlier this month."

Perry, O'Malley link Trump to 'Know-Nothings'

Can they make him sign a "no compete" contract that he won't run as an Indy in the GE if he doesn't win the GOP nomination? Might be tough to enforce, but a possible way out.

Participation is limited to the top 10 in some collection of polls.

Fine. So just choose the ones run by the "Bush Polling Co., Inc.", "Walker Public Polling, LLC", and "Kasich Klassy Kounting". Say Rump polls somewhere around 14th in each. Sorry, Donnie. Rules say you gotta be in the top 10.

Rump gets pissed, runs as the only nominee of the Rump Party. Winds up getting 20% or so, all from equally-pissed-off teabaggers, throwing the election to whatever Democrat winds up with the nomination.

Sounds good to me.
