Knowing that Judd Apatow was the movie's director, DUer LuvNewcastle makes the following intelligent speculation::
I wonder if this was a political statement about Judd Apatow. A radio talk show that I listen to sometimes mentioned that Apatow was pro-gun control, and one person on the show said that he was thinking about not seeing this movie because of Apatow's stance on gun control.
The talk show is called Walton & Johnson, and it runs on weekday mornings on a lot of stations in the South. It's supposed to be a comedy show, but it isn't very funny because they're always talking about how awful Democrats are and how much better the GOP is. I wouldn't be surprised if the shooter was a listener.

I can attest we get Walton & Johnson in Lafayette loud and clear! They're worse than LuvNewcastle suggested: racist and anti-gay, doing voices and having standard stereotypical characters. Very ugly and childish.

I didn't want this very interesting possibility to be buried.
Can someone find out how much they've talked about the movie and Apatow recently? Last few days?

(50,130 posts)Was riding home from the coast with my cousin. Retired Honolulu PD. A very great family guy, warm and compassionate. But totally into this craziness and victim mentality aimed at American white males.
I could not believe what I was hearing on talk radio. And he switched between several stations, so there must be a flood of this filth on our air waves.
Lies, distortions, propaganda of the worst kind.....It was sickening.

(16,203 posts)I can totally see someone who is depressed and lonely hearing voices on the radio that sounds firm and important in their ideas, latching on to said ideas, thinking "here is something I can do to take action against these people I hate!"
