By KARYN CZAR 4 HOURS AGO
A rally was held today on the Capitol steps in Frankfort for those who want to keep the statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis in the rotunda.
Chants of Leave Davis alone! ended the two hour rally that was meant to let lawmakers know that this group wants the Jefferson Davis statue which stands along the likenesses of other famous Kentuckians like Abraham Lincoln and Henry Clay to stay in the Capitol Rotunda. Tom Hiter who is with the Kentucky Chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans wants the statue to stay put ...
But Berea Ernst who stood in the crowd holding a #blacklivesmatter sign wants the statue removed, adding, I dont know why it would be a primary symbol for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in our rotunda. Its ridiculous.
The rally wasnt just about the Davis Monument. It also focused heavily on the Confederate flag, which was being flown or worn by nearly everyone there. While the crowd recited their salute to the flag, Ernst showed the other side of her sign which read "Love the people of the south, not the Confederacy" ...

A Little Weird
(1,754 posts)It was one of the most poorly-attended rallies I've seen at the capitol (I've seen many). There were a disturbing number of confederate flags on display but I was glad to see they didn't get much support.

Nuclear Unicorn
(19,497 posts)People rooting for Lee or "Stonewall" Jackson can at least claim to be rooting for someone who was competent in their respective duties. This is like rallying for Lyndon LaRouche or Ron Paul.

(2,474 posts)General George Henry Thomas the Rock of Chickamauga and the man that defended Unionist Kentucky from the likes of Jefferson Davis.
Kentucky stayed on the Union and sent 3 times the number of troops to the Union than to the rebels. Each time rebel armies invaded Kentucky they got very little if any popular support.
It was only after the war that Kentuckians started embracing the rebellion.
Let us build an American Holocaust museum to memorialize the millions slave of raped, tortured, and murdered by the South and to honor those the men and women that fought for their freedom.
We can convert all the confederate statues to planters and urinals so we also remember the men that fought for the rights of rich white men to rape black children.
