It has been reported that while he was running the Milwaukee Archdiocese Dolan authorized payments of up to $20,000.00 to "unassignable priests" so that they would leave the ministry. Perhaps this was ,as the diocese claims done merely to expedite the individual's laicization and provide some help to transition from the priesthood. So maybe ok but maybe not. Dolan needs to take time off from cheerleading for the GOP and answer some questions including but not limited to:
Why were these priests "unassignable"?
What did the diocese know and when did they know whatever it was that made the priests "unassignable"?
Did the diocese ever report these priests and what they knew about them to the authorities?
Was the diocese ever questioned about the behavior and how forthcoming were they?
Did the "unassignable priests" sign a non disclosure covenant as condition of receiving the money?
I'm sure that victims' attorneys and possibly a prosecutor is going to have a full complement of questions to ask the Cardinal.
Here's a link to an article regarding the practice.

Let's go to the Martin Bashir video tape!
Dolan has put us on notice. He may be forced to "limit" support to the impoverished, homeless and hungry in the interest of "religious freedom" for himself and the small percentage of Roman Catholics who share his views on birth control."
