Chrysler Enjoys 30-Percent Sales Increase in May, All Brands Report Sales Gain

Chrysler Group today reported strong May sales results, with overall sales volume rising 30 percent year-over-year to 150,041 units. Those are the company’s best May sales figures since 2007, and the 26th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains for Chrysler. Every single one of Chrysler Group’s brands saw its volumes increase compared to May 2011.

Chrysler – 29,674 sales, up 81 percent

Chrysler was the brand with the second-biggest sales increase, at 81 percent, and the biggest winner within the brand was the 300 luxury sedan. Sales jumped 140 percent compared to May 2011, to 6101 cars. The 200 midsize sedan saw its sales jump 87 percent to 13,250 cars, while the Town & Country minivan enjoyed a 56-percent sales leap to 10,323 units.

Jeep – 44,198 sales, up 24 percent

Continuing demand for the rough-and-tumble Wrangler helped propel the Jeep brand to a 24-percent sales gain. It was up 44 percent to 14,454 monthly sales. The Jeep Grand Cherokee enjoyed a 40-percent sales gain to 13,274 units, and the Jeep Patriot saw sales inch up eight percent to 5891 units. The only model for which sales declined year-over-year was the Compass, down 18 percent to 3720. As we reported this week, Chrysler plans to kill off this version of the Compass by 2014.
