Many years ago (in the 90's IIRC ) there was an election in California where a rich guy named Mike Huffington (yes, he was Arianna's husband at the time) ran for Senator-I'm going to say it was against Barbara Boxer, but it might have been DiFi. In any event, he spent $60 million of his own money on the campaign. The amount was unprecedented at the time for a Senatorial election.
He lost.
If we stick together as progressives and Democrats, and don't pay attention to the propaganda from the right, we can defeat the idiots that do listen to the lies. I hear that turnout in Wisconsin is already high. That's a good thing. High voter turnout tends to favor Democrats.
Our real, and perhaps only, defense against the travesty that was Citizens United is our ability to get out the progressive vote.

(23,664 posts)The unfortunate Meg Whitman spent $140 million on a campaign for the governor's office in CA.
And she didn't just lose. She lost. Bad. Embarassingly so.
Money isn't the answer if the candidate really sucks. Huffington did. Whitman did. Walker does and Romney does.

They constantly report on how much money is being spent. They like to point out the correlation between money spent and victories. We need to get past that and get out the vote. We lost 2010 because of lack of turnout as much as any other reason.
Hell, I'd go out on a limb and say that every Republican candidate since maybe Eisenhower has "sucked." Too many of them got elected anyway.
