Frankly, it is a terribly sobering and scary thought that Donald Trump is actually the nominee for the Republicans.
With the hackable voting machines and the voters that have been disenfranchised, Trump as president is a real and frightening possibility.
Flat out scary

(58,785 posts)more faith that many of us are now recognizing that we have a responsibility to protect our nation from getting sucked into the GOP's death spiral. Many conservatives say they will not vote for Trump -- recognizing that responsibility. Not all will hold to that, but some will, and it seems safe to say turnout across the rest of the political spectrum will be high in November.
I also expect that almost all of Sanders's supporters will pivot to defeating Trump and capturing as much of congress as we can -- with or without Sanders.
But we really could use Sanders' help, instead of hindrance. At one time I really thought he was responsible enough to do what he needed, now it's looking as if his belief in the righteousness of his cause is warping his judgement. We'll see. Progressive leader or intransigent gadfly?

(28,394 posts)He will shred the democratic nominee, whoever it is. It makes me sick thinking about it.
And God forbid, if he wins.... who will actually run the country? Trump is only in this for his gargantuan ego and has no concern for the country, the population, or governmental procedures.

(43,235 posts)Trump's a different kind of animal. And he's got a fanbase of fascist loyalists caught up in a cult of personality.
Cruz might have been very scary ideologically, but I didn't fear him as an opponent.
Trump, as both an opponent and potential president, scares the ever living daylights out of me. And it has nothing to do with any percieved weaknesses or criticisms of our own nominee, whoever he or she might ultimately be. I'd be terrified if Barack Obama was still running against Trump, or we had the 2nd coming of FDR against Trump.
Trump's just one scary, crazy dude, period.

(4,302 posts)Watching his speech now. All he's doing is bragging and complaining he hasn't gotten enough credit for all of the winning he's done. How could grown adults actually think this shitshow of a human being should be POTUS.

(27,995 posts)I hate Ted Cruz, but the idea of Trump as the nominee is truly frightening. He's a narcissist with NO understanding of the constitution or how our government works.
He's also still a BIRTHER. That's the political equivalent of believing that the earth is flat.

Secondly, Trump will crater the GOP.

My only hope is that Trump really doesn't want the actual JOB of being president, and he'll do something to sabotage the deal. Hopefully it's egregious enough that everyone will flock to the Democratic nominee.

(20,984 posts)If he won he would hardly be the worse elected GOP in Washington. There are but a hand full of GOP in Washington not complete crap. Trump's win signals that there will be more terrible GOP candidates in the future. That party is dead to me. I respect no one that votes Republican. There is nothing to respect.

(24,692 posts)... Hillary would be more likely to face gridlock on liberal policies than Mr. Trump would.
The party is already destroyed simply by his nomination. #NeverTrump intends to at least salvage conservatism.
Oddly, if you substitute 'Clinton' for 'Trump' and exchange 'liberal' and 'conservative', the whole thing sounds vaguely familiar.
It would look like this:
... if a conservative is going to sit in the oval office, let us not take part in putting them there with our names on their support roster. Let us not let a woman for 4 years get up on that bully pulpit and create a mistrust of liberalism that destroys the meager gains we've managed.

(10,336 posts)during Bushco, it was bullshit. To fix a problem we didn't have. Bait and switch. The problems we had with elections at that time did not need new computers to solve them. Voting can be done with a pencil and paper.
