General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI think that Trump will self-destruct before November.
His finances, his health (see dr.'s letter), his businesses are all areas where he will be forced to explain his past and he will finally say something that could put a stake through the heart of his campaign. What about his taxes? Is he going to continue to run his empire from the oval office?
I think that the GOP should be prepared to pull a new nominee out of a hat!

That he has come this far is a bit of a surprise, but the Republican party created this monster, and it isn't dying on its own.
I hope your predictions are correct, though, but would rather see Trump in office than someone like Cruz if the worst happens.
Can you imagine the executive orders under Cruz?
Trump will get us in so many wars, the country will die like Rome. Cruz would take away every right we have at the same time. If we go down, better with a God-complex buffoon at the helm than a sociopathic God-complex tyrant.

The combination of republican and loyalty is an oxymoron , there is no such thing in their playbook as loyalty to anything, that little "oath" won't mean much when they can't even hold to their oath of office.

The world is his oyster, but that's not what he's consuming. The front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination eats like a teenage boy, inhaling Filets-O-Fish and Big Macs. "It's great stuff," he says of his fast-food habit. At a time when growing, cooking and enjoying food in the United States is yooooge, his preferences are surprisingly pedestrian - and passe, as if Alice Waters had never been born and food were fuel (albeit dirty gas as opposed to premium).

(10,252 posts)Trump's recent rant about Hillary being mean to Bill's GFs was really quite vulgar and about as wholesome as a pig wallowing in the mud. Trump is so vulgar. I keep thinking that he can't get more vulgar, but he keeps finding more slime to spread around. Trump cannot control himself. Apparently, he cannot see/know that most people find his fear-mongering and vile ad hominem attacks quite distasteful. But he will go there over and over and over, because it's really all he has.

That doesn't even go into his marital indiscretions. Of course, I don't KNOW what he'll do but I think the Repugs made Cruz and Kasich drop out now to deprive him of any more competition. We'll see how fast he gets lazy with no one to run against in the primary. Nice to meet you!

(15,139 posts)ever sit in the Oval Office -- GW Bush and his band of evil henchmen. We did not survive unscathed, however, and we are still dealing with the aftermath of that shitshow.
Ironically, Trump is hated by the R establishment not so much for his anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-women attacks but for his not wanting to destoy Social Security and statements he's made in support of Planned Parenthood. He's extremely inconsistent and has no core set of beliefs or values. He'll say anything to further his own ambition.
I think if he did manage to win (doubtful) he'd bring in a bunch of people experienced in government to do the heavy lifting. Whether he'd choose well is iffy, but he's smart enough to know he's incapable of doing the job. He just wants the title.

(19,286 posts)His record, his history, and his comments have not even begun to be scrutinized by the media and the public. The vetting you get in the primaries is nothing compared to the enteral election. And the GOP didn't take him all that seriously so they reall didn't bother to do any digging until it we too late. All the insane things he said only appealed to a small % of the population, his supporters. Trump needs to win over tens of millions of other Americans to have a chance, that will not happen, in fact he might lose voters over the not six months. He will lose in a landslide.

(1,122 posts)People, including pundits (who are laughable), were saying that Donald Trump would flame out.
I would not assume, with those recent CNN numbers, that Donald Trump would lose in a general-election landslide (to a Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton). What would help create that is if the Republicans, as they are doing now, put the screws to him. Thing is, that affects down-ballot races and, frankly, Old Guard types like U.S. senators John McCain (R-Arizona) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa)their first elections in 1986 and 1980want another term.
Voting habits, over the last three presidential elections2004, 2008, and 2012have been that states with U.S. Senate elections tend to see same-party carriagePresident and U.S. Senateat a rate of about 80 percent. In other words: 33 or 34 states may be on the scheduleand 25 to 27 end up carrying for the same party at both levels.
So, I dont think the Republican Party are going to lie down just for satisfaction of Trump ending up losing badly.

It really, really threatens him. He is good with the hit and run insult strategy he pulled during the so-called debates but he hasn't ever had to face a woman like Hillary. If he tries to pull it during a debate, where he can't run and hide after doing it, I predict she will proceed to disembowel him for all to see with a smile on her face and a song on her lips. And that's if she even gets a chance to do it - personally, my money is on Warren to do it before Hillary ever gets a chance.

There is very VERY little he can say that is going to drive a stake through the heart of his campaign, b/c his campaign is based upon being the opposite. (14,589 posts)I said he was no joke in a republican primary when he announced, by late summer said he was a real threat to win the nomination, and said he had it a sleeper hold on the nomination around thanksgiving, that he was gaffe proof by that point in a republican primary.
IMO, a matchup against hillary is very bad for him.
He is a mysoginistic dipshit, and especially if hillary is polling over him just wont be able to refrain from saying stunningly sexist shit toward her.
And, whatever faults Hillary has, she is smart and tough, and tends to react well to attacks, and also knows him very well.
IMO, she will not lower herself to his juvenile level, while still tweaking him, and he will end doing the impossible and actually make a lot of people who arent in love with her view her a little more softly.
