I didn't know if I should post this hear or in GDP, but this isn't about any one candidate...it's about the whole system.
Of course this movie is about an alien takeover. There is an alley fight between two of the good guys...one (the hero of the movie) is trying to get the other guy to put on his special sunglasses that reveal aliens who otherwise look just like people, and the brainwashing going on all around them.
So one reddit comment says:
Then the important comment:
Then in response to that:
And this, my friends is exactly what I see happening between the democrats. One side fighting for change to stop the carnage, because our country is ruled by corporate overlords and money, and the other side refusing to see the truth about what our government is doing to us, because it would shake up their world too much.
For movie buffs, here is the trailer for the sunglasses and then one for the alley fight scene:
Yes, I know it's just entertainment, but it's really happening. And this is not about personalities...it's about issues.

(13,889 posts)If you're interested in this then you need to watch Zizek's film The Pervert's Guide to Ideology. And I do mean that you need to watch it, because your claim that 'one side fighting for change to stop the carnage, because our country is ruled by corporate overlords and money, and the other side refusing to see the truth about what our government is doing to us' is exactly the sort of ideological self-deception that Zizek is trying to point out. If you watch his whole film (or read his books, but they're not exactly accessible to the casual reader) then you'll have a great deal to think about. I'm opposed to Bernie precisely because he's so ideological. Hillary Clinton is simply not the evil corporate monster that Bernie fans insist on painting her as, and the inability of some on the left to distinguish between her and the GOP borders on the delusional.
You really, really need to watch Zizek's whole film. He is making a much deeper point than the one you have taken away from this second-hand discussion of the topic.

(8,175 posts)It seems a lot of people can't understand why so many of us are "afraid" of the moderate dems who want to keep us down. It's because they are leading toward what the GOP stands for and it is NOT change. And for the past 30 years we've been needing change, but it's not happening and the moderate dems don't seem to want it to happen.
Like this movie points out, too many moderate dems are content with the say things are going and want more of it. We don't have time to keep things going the way they are.
I did not mean for this thread to start talking about personalities...but instead issues. Can we leave candidate names out of this please? If you want to discuss personalities, go to GDP.

A simple justification narrative is often needed when an organization has determined a policy that is beneficial to themselves, but has no benefit, or even extremely negative consequences, for the majority of people. A politician obviously can't just admit that the socially destructive legislation he is trying to introduce is extremely beneficial to particular corporate interests that have promised him all kinds of kick-backs when he leaves office; so he needs a justification narrative in order to make the idea palatable. When the objective is either the primary reason in itself, or when the primary reason cannot be admitted, it is necessary to create a justification narrative.
Confirmation bias
Justification narratives often rely strongly upon confirmation bias, which is the tendency for people to be significantly less likely to critically analyze a statement that fits comfortably into their worldview or provides support to the policies of a favored organization.
Simplistic justification narratives are aimed at uncritical thinkers; people like reactionaries and political tribalists. Once these people have a satisfactory narrative that is easy to understand and is easy to remember, they are unlikely to ever begin questioning the basic premises and assumptions of the narrative. Once the mind is sold on an idea, many people won't ever bother to examine it more closely for fallacious reasoning, generalizations, misrepresentations or omission of evidence. If the story seems to make sense, many people will simply accept it at face value. "

(3,919 posts)not just here;
she will not think twice about getting us into more wars and feeding the military industrial complex;
she will claim we cannot afford to expand social security and the minimum wage - but we can afford to through trillions at wars;
she will allow the keystone xl pipeline and the havoc on the environment which will ensue;
she will drag her feet to maintain the current prison system and incarceration rates - because there are other priorities...;
her cabinet will be composed of good ol' boys and gals of the corporate ilk;
bill will have the final word on everything;
etc., etc.....
those of who can "see" know we do not have time to waste - not one day and certainly not years - otherwise, the 99% will suffer and our planet will continue on a death spiral.

govt is us.
And this, my friends is exactly what I see happening between the democrats.
at a cheap $1000/hr x 15hrs/day x 1200 stations, rw talk radio is worth 4.68 BIL$/ year or 390MIL$ /month FREE for coordinated global warming denial, pro republican wall st think tank propaganda, free market deregulation bullshit, swiftboating, and the hate and fear used to get people to vote republican.
great movie, but the analysis is done in a rw radio vacuum -
the whole left never put the fucking glasses on! it ignored talk radio while it kicked their ass!
because it hurt their ears to listen to it

(11,284 posts)When the aliens are making their deals to screw over humanity, and human leaders are working _with_ them, to gain power. That feeling of hopelessness is the same one I feel as I watch Clinton triangulate with the banksters. It's all a big club, the masters and their collaborators, and you aren't in it.

(8,175 posts)Not because I want to, but because too many are breaking the rules of GD. I guess I should have posted this in GDP after all, but I didn't want this to be aimed at people...just general problems within the democratic party.
Sorry guys. I should have known better. Please lock this thread so I don't have to delete the OP.
