This year may turn out to be a gross underestimation of the cultural change thats taking place within the GOP and America, frankly. Trump and his followers have mostly rejected the notion that they need to embrace the fundamentalist agenda in order to win andperhaps more to the pointthat winning on fundie terms is not even worth it.

(65,616 posts)every single penny they could get from you. I know it is no fun being called SUCKERS all the time...but eventually you will have to look in the mirror and make some new life choices.
Start with going outside and smelling the fresh air, notice that the world is not ending today or next month and might be around for a bit longer. Enjoy life and the mere living of it. Trust me, it has a transformative way about it, you might even find yourself smiling in public. No longer scared of each and every shadow you see as the devil personally waiting to trounce on you.
Breath deeply, enjoy the sucker-free life. Even water tastes sweeter.

(9,138 posts)Watching the religious right get their comeuppance on the national scene was highly gratifying on the national scene, but those of us who live in Bible Belt states know that these people are still going to be around for years on the state level.

(12,233 posts)patriarch, Sky Daddy for many younger generations. Demo nixing everyone and thing for being evil and wrong when the country is choosing to embrace those who are gay or to admit women into world or to "get along" with other people's religions... Everyone is plugged into the Internet these days. It's not hard to see how the world is operating if one chooses to look... Also, many, many, many people are choosing to love their "out" friends, children, etc, rather than tell them they are going to hell.
On the other front, the new "working" model for many Americans is to be on call 24/7. It's extremely rare to be young and have a "normal" work week with weekends off... Shoot, these days with child care so expensive, many parents are stuck or manipulate work schedules to make affordable daycare work (as in making schedules around work and with family and friends and school to make things work out). The ability for someone 35 and younger to go to church on Sunday am is increasingly hard to do. The business models and practices by the corporations are killing their ability to rely on duping the "church" crowd into aligning with their party's interests. They keep shooting themselves in the proverbial foot.
So the party of Trump really is the Republican Party. They really are only the more ignorant, bigoted, slightly older, gun toting, asshats that are left to vote for their candidates. The fact that Democrats couldn't rally support in 2014 for mid-terms shows exactly how un-engaging the Democratic Party has become for people's needs. They ran agains the President, they ran corporate Dems, they refused to embrace progressive policies for the most part... All they had was, "not as bad as the Tea Party". That doesn't bring out the youth. That doesn't bring anyone out all that well.
The only thing that we can hope for and to help foster is the people who became involved this time, "BernieCrats", who can remain connected, keep monetary, small donations incoming, and help to foster and develop candidates in states and local govt to help move progress along. All those "kids" you see at the rallies are going to be closing in on 30 in another 8 yrs. those "kids" who rallied for Obama and thought that he would be more like Bernie, are now in their late 20's/ early 30's and will be approaching 40 in another 8 yrs. I think the country can move as long as people have a place and an outlet to continue to engage in that progress.
