It's got your 1984 language down perfectly. Could these antedeluvian cretins be more paternalistic?
Gov. Jon Bel Edwards intends to sign the Women's Enhanced Reflection Act, making Louisiana the sixth state to make women wait three days after meeting with a doctor to have an abortion.
Opponents say its an unnecessary hurdle for an already-legal medical procedure. One woman, who has had multiple abortions, thinks it is a pause women need to consider alternatives to abortion.

(39,343 posts)Of course this is a hurdle for women who have to travel away from home to see the doctor, hoping that a delay will make them unable to return.
Fucking swine

(14,732 posts)is designed to prevent its use of it based on a temporary emotion of the moment. Most women don't make up their minds to have an abortion on the spur of the moment.

(250 posts)....is the three day waiting period for gun purchase is to allow time to do a background check to see if you are legally allowed to have the gun. I could be wrong though.

(26,060 posts)piss me off more than anything else. As if the decision to terminate a pregnancy isn't hard enough, these clowns are basically patting us on the head and saying "we don't think you've thought about this long enough little lady, you need to think about it some more". So freeking condescending. That doesn't even get into that so many women have to travel hundreds of miles TWICE (perhaps even having to pay for hotels and such). These kinds of bullshit laws are only to punish women for wanting control of our lives. Grrrrrrrrr
Spot on.

(16,423 posts)3 days sounds like a reasonable amount of time to ponder whether you REALLY want to use a toilet where a transgender person could be in that other stall.
Maybe it's time to consider alternatives to public toilets? How about shitting behind a bush or tree? Or shitting your pants? Or holding it in until you find another toilet?
And what we definitely need is politicians meddling with your body. All they are asking for is that their opinion be more important than the opinion of people actually on the case. Is that really that much of a demand?

(6,943 posts)JBE is not related to Edwin Edwards. And his stance on abortion has been consistent. No, he does not pass the 100% purity test. He did expand Medicare, protect LGBT rights, and support a medical marijuana bill. Cut him some slack, I guess those critical of him would support his opponent David Vitter?
This is the real world, dreamers. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.

Oh yes, I see it has already raised its ugly head in this very thread. But, fuck compromising on essential principles for illusory electoral gains.

Oh wait, they just want to make it cost more. And then women will be further along in their pregnancies when they abort, and they'll complain about how long they waited, and make the safe forms of abortion for later pregnancies illegal too.

(16,203 posts)taken decades to come around to a pro choice position, find these waiting periods absolutely absurd, insulting, and unreasonably burdensome on people who can least afford it.
Enough stories of young poor women, too young for birth, and women with life threatening or nonviable pregnancies, being forced to go on an expensive odyssey, far from home or the support of their loved ones -- in some cases unable to care for their other children, in some cases already devastated by circumstances beyond their control -- have convinced me that government needs to stay out of this.
If the government wants to do something, it can fund contraceptives and it can provide far more support for new parents.

(16,829 posts)so the woman is already taking a day to travel. Add 3 days and she has to pay for a hotel also. Its just one more way of screwing poor women.

(5,762 posts)If you're in the clinic to have an abortion, I assure you that you've thought about it for AT LEAST three days. Three fucking days of saying to yourself any combination of the below:
--Make this fucking thing be over already
--I wish it didn't have to be this way
--I want this baby but I can't handle it
--I detest that sperm donor
--FML
--I hope it doesn't hurt too much
By the time you get to the damn clinic, you are 100% sure you either can't or don't want to be pregnant any more, for one reason or another.
The end.

(2,012 posts)in the Women's Enhanced Reflection bill is the size of the male egos in the Legislature. The only people who will suffer are the women who have decided to have a LEGAL abortion and the unwanted children that the Louisiana legislators refuse to care for and educate.
