Cop Comforts Baby After Mother Leaves Him at Crash Scene: 'The Mom Did a Monstrous Thing'
Inside Edition,Inside Edition 14 hours ago
A police officer went above and beyond the call of duty when he rescued a 2-year-old boy who was left in a car after his mother allegedly crashed into a fire hydrant and fled.
Police say the boys 27-year-old mother, Elizabeth Robles, crashed into the hydrant early Saturday morning sending a geyser of water into the sky then ran from the scene on foot, leaving her child behind.
"I hear someone yelling: 'there is a baby back here!" It was just a little 2-year-old guy crying in the backseat," Cooke recalled. In video of the incident, Cooke gave the boy his bottle and a hug.
Cops say they finally found the mom two hours after the crash at her home, located a few miles away from the crash site. Cops arrested her and say she had been drinking when she crashed into the hydrant.
"It could have been much worse. We were right there at the right time," Cooke said.
Robles is already out on bail. She's due back in court June 8 to face child abandonment charges. Relatives are currently caring for the little boy.
