He wrote in his book, The Groucho Phile: "I've been a liberal Democrat all my life", and "I frankly find Democrats a better, more sympathetic crowd.... I'll continue to believe that Democrats have a greater regard for the common man than Republicans do".

I don't know what they have to say,
It makes no difference anyway,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
No matter what it is or who commenced it,
I'm against it.

Your proposition may be good,
But let's have one thing understood,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
And even when you've changed it or condensed it,
I'm against it.

He wrote that? You're right, it would be a perfect theme song for today's republicans.

I'm impressed with how quickly you found and posted that.

Whatever It Is, I’m Against It, by Harry Ruby (music) and Bert Kalmar (lyrics), performed by Groucho Marx in Horse Feathers (1932)

this could make a great ad. Use a little humor to point out what shitheads the Repubs have been. Play it over video of how many times they've opposed WHATEVER the President has tried to do.

Just a slide show of some of these clowns in the House and Senate with the song playing would say so much. One or two of Boehner crying of course! And the a clip of him yelling, "Hell no we won't!" His fake outrage is always good for a laugh.

that Groucho was short-changed in the Celebrity Mourning department.

Even in death, no one should have to follow Elvis. Groucho's death went virtually unnoticed in all the hysterical sobbing over a guy who OD'd on the toilet.

Sung:
For our information
Just for illustration
Tell us how you intend to run the nation

Rufus T. Firefly:
These are the laws of my administration

No one`s allowed to smoke
Or tell a dirty joke
And whistling is forbidden

Chorus:
We`re not allowed to tell a dirty joke

Hail, hail Freedonia

Rufus:
If chewing gum is chewed
The chewer is pursued
And in the hoosegow hidden

Chorus:
If we choose to chew we`ll be pursued

Rufus:
If any form of pleasure is exibited
Report to me and it will be prohibited
I`ll put my foot down, so shall it be
This is the land of the free

The last man nearly ruined this place
He didn`t know what to do with it
If you think this country`s bad off now,
Just wait `til I get through with it

The country`s taxes must be fixed
And I know what to do with it
If you think you`re paying too much now
Just wait till I get throught with it

*whistle*

I will not stand for anything that`s crooked or unfair
I`m strictly on the upper knot, so everyone beware
If any man`s caught taking graft, and I don`t get my share
We stand`im up against the wall and pop! Goes the weasel

Chorus:
So everyone beware, you`re stricken or unfair
-------unless he gets his share

Rufus:
If any man should come between a husband and his bride
We`ll find out which one she prefers by letting her decide
If she prefers the other man, the husband steps outside
We stand him up against the wall and pop!Goes the weasel

Chorus:
The husband steps outside, relinquishes his bride
They stand him up against the wall and take him for a ride
