Rachel Reported it:
The vice presidential pick will also be part of the process of proving hes ready for the White House, Manafort said.
He needs an experienced person to do the part of the job he doesnt want to do. He seems himself more as the chairman of the board, than even the CEO, let alone the COO.
There is a long list of who that person could be, Manafort added, and every one of them has major problems.
The campaign probably wont choose a woman or a member of a minority group, he said. In fact, that would be viewed as pandering, I think.

(47,231 posts)what it says to me: is don't worry if Donald is not qualified, elect the ticket. Donald isn't gonna really do anything reckless.
But the fact is, he will be the President if elected, that we would have a completely unqualified buffoon in charge of the most powerful military on the planet.

(10,131 posts)many others were saying when he entered the primary.
Part of it is that folks are so fed up with the status quo in Washington that they'd entertain a wacky CEO like Trump as an upgrade.

That reminded me a lot of what people were saying when Trump entered the primary ... yet here he stands, the winner of that process.
Some of it isn't stupidity - though I can't stand Trump - in that people are fed up and Trump is the result.
I can't stand Trump or the GOP but more Hillary lies came to light today and she's making it really tough for me to support her. A bunch of independents can't stand Hillary and they'll be supporting Trump because the hate Hillary more.

(47,231 posts)but Manafort is another evil genius type, the reason he is saying this is because he already knows Trump can't win unless he says shit like this.
Anyways, don't forget that a primary and a ge are quite different as well.

(188 posts)Someone started a thread here today saying that we should be grateful to FDR for the wonderful times we enjoyed in the 1950's and that if we dissed Bernie we were pissing on FDR
Now I'm confused

(15,805 posts)But do tell us all about the "wonderful times we enjoyed in the 1950's"?

(188 posts)But when I grew up in the 50s times were good
Hell, we had just come out of 16 years of Democratic Party rule and Ike was being pressured by both parties to run
As matter of fact, up until fucking LBJ pulled his Gulf of Tonkin bullshit it was a great time to be growing up

(15,805 posts)For any educated single female, the 50s sucked. Sexual harassment, no benefits, low pay... yeah, that was the norm. You couldn't rent an apartment alone, or get a loan for a car or a house unless a man cosigned for you.
It wasn't a magical time and the streets weren't lined with gum-drop trees. Kids in my school were getting polio, and my cousins were off fighting the Korean War. We did A-bomb drills in class, believing our desks would protect us from nuclear disaster. McCarthy was spreading fears of communists and foreigners.
Corporal punishment was a school event where Coach got to beat kids, girls too, with a wooden paddle. There were no seat belts, no trauma centers and no social safety net of any kind. My grandma's house still didn't have any electricity or phone service. Domestic violence was commonplace anf if a husband beat his wife, no problem, and forget about a divorce. Eugenics were still laws and my cousin with Downs syndrome was ordered to be sterilized as a teen by the state of calif.
Yeah, it was a great time.

(12,002 posts)It was a good time for white middle class... decent job security, a single breadwinner could support a family.
and the MIC was content with just one war at a time.
but it really sucked if you were black.
or a "communist."
or a young male who got drafted.
and there was no internet, I'll leave that to you to put into either the pro or con category.

A woman needed a man to sign off on a loan or rent an apartment.
Access to birth control was well nigh impossible for unmarried women, especially if under 21.
Help wanted ads in the newspapers were segregated by gender, and women's work paid very little indeed. If want ads were segregated otherwise I don't recall seeing it in California.
As it happens I was a child in the 1950s, so nearly all of this went right over my head -- but enough of it was still alive well into the 1970s that it affected my adult life.
But in the 1950s my mother stayed home from work while my father was the sole wage earner in a blue collar unionized job. As a white man he was able to purchase a small home for us and we lived on the verge of the broad middle class, with good public schools, and aspirations for college -- my parents were absolutely convinced that college was the key to our future.
So being a kid then was okay, even with the periodic duck and cover exercises at school.

No, that world isn't anything I'd want to go back to.

(10,281 posts)That's right, Mitt Romney. Yes he lost his bid for the top job last time, but Name Recognition and the Establishment will be happy. Congress can come back to work and start looking for impeachment reasons if Trump wins, and everyone who calls themselves a Republican that doesn't want to vote Trump will be back on board. Plus Corporate Donor money for the General. If Trump really is looking for someone to run his White House FOR him ala Dick Cheney, Romney is the only one because most of the State governors won't want to and NO ONE in Congress is remotely qualified.
This is where I'm putting my money. ANYONE else is a net loss on a balance scale, and that makes it Trump's best chance. Christie goes to Justice for being a good bootlicker already, maybe Cruz gets to be a Court Nominee. Kasich to State or Defense cause he's not superficially Crazy, and that's that boys and girls, the core of the Cabinet. BillO can be PressSec lol.
