A friend of mine, whom I've known since I was a child and who still lives in the town in PA in which I grew up (an area that is Ground Zero for the Marcellus shale fracking that is going on) posted this on Facebook yesterday:
LOL! Love it!

(8,409 posts)He is someone who abhors violence. It just happens that he abhors disrespect even more.

(1,956 posts)and beats them up for talking rudely...... yeah, he's violent.
But please don't tell him I posted this.

That's is, to you, either the only or the most obvious inference you can make from the OP's responses?

Sorry, but this is all made up. Post proof of this or stop lying.

(8,409 posts)... that there is a bit of a back story to this. Seems there have been a LOT of tensions between the frackers and the folks who happen to live in the area the frackers are destroying.

(1,039 posts)I hate rude people, but responding to someone being rude by getting violent and bloodying them is not the answer I'd prefer. I hate to say it, but the "he was mouthing off, so I used violence to get him to behave" meme is something that I associate with the right, not the left.

(14,910 posts)You and your friend do not sound like any friends of mine.
The friends of mine were at Riverdale TP peacefully creating roadblocks and refusing eviction.
This sounds like the thuggery of the 30's and 40's to me...

(5,005 posts)Isn't this denying people the right of free passage? What if a diabetic needs to get to his or her meds and gets sick because of the peaceful roadblock?

(24,853 posts)They just make the needle on my BS meter wiggle a little, ya know? Not questioning your veracity here because after all, this was posted on Facebook. But whoever wrote it definitely left some things open to question. To wit:
How did this self-proclaimed "old fart" know the rude person was an "inbred drillinator"?
Is this self-proclaimed "old fart" in the habit of approaching young men he finds rude and getting agressive with them to the point of INITIATING a physical confrontation? Pretty dumb thing to do in the current environment, don't you think?
How did he know the young man was from Texas?
So this self-proclaimed "old fart" not only bloodied his mouth and nose, but knocked him on his ass ("at that point he stood up, brushed himself off" as well? That's a pretty tough "old fart".
Lastly, I surely would have called 911 and reported an assault had I been there. I would have waited until authorities arrived and pointed out the "old fart" who pulled a young man out of his truck and assaulted him without provocation.

(5,376 posts)You hit all the points that came to my mind. One of the things that troubles me about this mindset is the fact that the "old fart" felt inclined and even more, justified to engage in what I consider a totally uncalled for reaction. Perhaps the young man's display of anger was also uncalled for, but it's just flat disturbing the number of incidents lately that are in response to fairly benign situations, and the awful consequences. Trayvon Martin comes to mind...
Peace. Oh, and blessings.

(32,076 posts)and they could pull someone out a car window I'm sure. But they'd just yell "Hey! Apologize!" with their chicago accents, while making their patented crazyface mad guy looks, and it would have worked out nicely.

Like I said, the Internets are full of stories, all following the same common theme. The ones about how they beat up on minorities, gays, non-Christians, etc. These stories go on to say the people around him cheered, the police refused to take any action against the guy who assaulted the other person, and so on.

(37,748 posts)Indeed-- one may suppose that the only thing in greater number than the original allegations and stories are the numbers implying disbelief in those allegations and stories.

(63,298 posts)I live in western PA, ground zero for Marcellus shale fracking, and this would have certainly made the news if it had actually happened. But not a peep about it so far, unless you can provide a link. So... Bullshit.
Second, even if it's true, it proves only that your friend is a dangerous asshole who should be locked up. Bad enough that he claims to have assaulted someone without real provocation; he actually seems to derive pleasure from it.
You should pick friends who know how to behave like human beings.
Mind you, I'm not accusing you of lying; I'm confident that you're faithfully relating a story that you read. I'm calling your friend a liar.

(1,734 posts)Pulling people out of trucks and assaulting them for some kind of verbal offense is antisocial behavior in the extreme. Your friend should be arrested and put behind bars.
Frankly, I think you or someone else made this entire thing up. Prove that this even happened.
