Trump sparks online firestorm with anti-Clinton tweet featuring Star of David

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump drew widespread rebuke on Saturday with a tweet featuring a Star of David while accusing rival Hillary Clinton of corruption.

The star, a symbol of Judaism, was on a backdrop of $100 bills and paired with a Fox News poll in which a majority of respondents described Clinton as corrupt. Next to Clinton’s face was a red Star of David bearing the words “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever!”

The origins of the tweet are unclear, but the attack’s apparent anti-Semitic imagery prompted backlash on Twitter. (Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, has converted to Judaism.)

Josh Schwerin, a Clinton campaign spokesman, was among those who highlighted Trump’s tweet:

Let's add "anti-Semite" to the list of Donald Trump's failings as a human being.

It was probably an oversight. i doubt he designed it. Probably stole the graphic from some online source.

There has been nothing in Donald Trump's campaign- or life- that earns him the benefit of the doubt.

From the day he announced his candidacy, Mr. Trump has insulted and demeaned one group after another. As others have noted, he's a xenophobe, a misogynist, a bigot of the highest order, a liar, a cheater, an adulterer and a white supremacist. And that list just scratches the surface of this odious man.

While I'm aware that his son-in-law is Jewish and that Ivanka converted, I can't cut his campaign any slack on this. It's just too obvious. As MineralMan noted in another thread, I'm actually surprised they picture doesn't have the Star of David in yellow. (A curious side note: Chelsea Clinton, a friend of Ivanka Trump's, also married a Jewish man but I don't believe she converted.)

But you and I, wooldog, can politely disagree on this point as long as we both agree that Donald Trump must never be president!

Enjoy your Independence Day.

I just saw this in a column on Vox:

Did Trump intend to convey an anti-Semitic message with this graphic? I’m honestly not sure. On the one hand, his daughter Ivanka converted to Judaism several years ago. She and her Jewish husband Jared Kushner reportedly wield some influence inside the Trump campaign, so you’d think they would steer him away from overt anti-Semitism. Indeed, about two hours after the first tweet, he sent out a new version of the graphic which replaced the six-pointed star with a circle. He deleted the six-pointed star tweet about an hour later.

It's clear someone in Mr. Trump's campaign realized what the tweet was implying.

Here's a link to the column:

Trump doesn't believe in anything but his own ego. He'll say or do anything to get elected, including a subtle appeal to Nazis and other anti-Semites.

You're talking about Donald Trump. How many white-supremacist dog-whistles has he been pumping on for the last 4 to 8 years? He's obviously not worried about offending his son-in-law on that front.

NOT!

Why even mention this piece of crap, let alone assist him with free media? Why advertise his tweet?

If you must do something, tweet this @RealDonaldTrump so all his followers have to see it.
