Protesters blocking SF intersection, forcing shutdown of Bay Bridge onramp

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - A group of protesters is currently blocking the intersection of 5th and Bryant Streets in San Francisco. It has forced the CHP to shut down the onramp to interstate 80 and the Bay Bridge into Oakland. The demonstration began before 2 p..m. Saturday. There are reportedly several dozen demonstrators taking part in the rally.

Onlookers have been posting photos and videos of the demonstration and onramp shutdown.

This protest comes after a peaceful demonstration Friday night in San Francisco against police brutality. Some 2,000 protesters were involved in that demonstration.

It's nice to disrupt, but people are free to respond to being disrupted for things they really aren't responsible for.

They sacrifice others' time and effort on the altar of their own priorities.

Of course, the alternative is, "I have something important to say and nobody's listening." Of course, they have a constitutional right to speak. But nobody has a constitutional right to be heard.

Most of us suffer jobs that are not making the world a better place.

We ALL should have jobs where the boss is going to understand if we are late for reasons entirely beyond our control.

Most people, however, live in the positive world, where getting to work and home on time are worthwhile.

Is this some kind of code talk?

Please explain.

Anybody who actually had to go to work that way would know better than to use an onramp by the ball park after a day game.

And I agree.

Unfortunately, most of the people on freeways are there not for fun but for necessity - work, medical visits, dropping off the kids, visiting their parents, etc. Blocking access to roads is like blocking access to grocery stores - nothing good comes out of it, and the message really is that my cause matters more than your needs - WHICH IS NOT WHAT BLM IS ABOUT.

Like...I get it. I would prefer that they didn't block traffic either because someone could be trying to get to work who can't be late because they've been late many times and the boss said if you are late once more you are fired...no excuses. Its hard for emergency medical vehicles to get through, or someone in a car who may be rushing with their pregnant wife to get to the hospital. Yes, many inconveniences can happen and many life altering situations like the others I mentioned. But if thats your line in the sand to stop supporting such a movement, you were barely lukewarm in your support to begin with, if at all.

This is a news report from 1989 in which an ACT UP protest blocks NYC traffic. Same reactions then as now.....

in a big city right now. I'm also glad I live in a town where the police have a reputation for generally being reasonable and not too heavy- handed. When I was young, I always wanted to move off to a big city and be in the middle of all the excitement. Now I know better. They can have that shit.
