We have been in touch with them a number of times over the last four weeks. But right now we haven't been able to contact them.

(67,849 posts)Yes, it is a coup and they will be glad to see Erdogan gone. My neighbors see him as an ISIS supporter, albeit under the radar. They say he has dismantled some democratic institutions. But mostly they think if he were to stay in power, Turkey would be like Iran within 5 to 10 years.
More later if I hear more.

(12,038 posts)I have friends and colleagues in Turkey. They despise Erdogan. Don't want to email them in case it leads to complications for them.

(67,849 posts)They are in a far out suburb of Istanbul and know no more about what is going on than we do here.
What the do say, however, is they would like Erdogan gone. They don't know who is leading the coup. They see Erdogan as a secret ISIS supporter.
