Black Thursday, one of Gov. Chris Christies least favorite local newspaper columnists called it, under a headline that declared it his worst day ever. At the least, it was the New Jersey governors terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
On Thursday morning, one of his closest confidants pleaded guilty to a felony charge of abusing power at the agency that Mr. Christie tapped him to lead. By that afternoon, federal prosecutors had charged a former cabinet official in connection with the same case, which spun out of the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal that has dogged Mr. Christie for nearly three years.
Then he did not get the job he had been publicly pining for, and on which he had pinned his hopes of political resuscitation. Donald J. Trump, who is expected to become the Republican nominee for president next week, picked someone else as his running mate, despite an endorsement that dragged Mr. Christies poll numbers to record lows at home and alienated him from moderate Republicans he once called friends.
And that was before a storm knocked down a tree and power line outside Mr. Christies house, starting a fire beside it. When a local television station asked the governor if he still had electricity, he gave a thumbs down, which might have been answering the question, or summing up the previous several hours, or months.

Read it all - hilarious.

Earlier this week, sources close to Christie told CNN that Jared was opposed to Trump picking the New Jersey governor. Jared is not only married to Trumps favorite child but clearly has the presumptive Republican nominees ear, having reportedly so insinuated himself into his father-in-laws presidential bid as to become a de facto campaign manager. Its obviously out there and it doesnt help, CNNs sources said. Were just not sure if it hurts.
In February, Chris Christie became the first high-profile Republican to endorse Trump, despite having throwing a fair few haymakers at him last summer and fall. The lengths to which Christie would go to win Trumps favor quickly became apparent: he was rumored to have fetched the real estate developer food; was mocked for his weight; and roped his wife into the whole sad affair. In a word, the governor of New Jersey debased himself in the hopes that he would win the vice presidential nomination.
Presumably, Christie had obtained from Trump a promise of...something. VP? AG? Instead, he is out in the cold without even a speaking slot at the convention. Every rival candidate had to weigh the damage of holding out versus rolling over: He went all in for the rollover, and he got nothing.
If Jared wanted to utterly destroy Christie for prosecuting his father, its hard to imagine how he could have wreaked a more complete humiliation.

Christie will never get AG

New Jersey governor Chris Christie was reportedly enraged he didn't earn the VP spot, according to a top Trump campaign official.
While minding my own business at the Starbucks inside the Westin hotel this morning, I saw a man engage Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort in conversation about the VP selection process. The man, whom I couldn't identify, suggested that Pence was a smart pick and Gingrich would've been a disaster.
"Christie was livid, right?" the man said at one point. "Yeah," Manafort replied.
Christie has made no secret that he was disappointed he wasn't chosen to be Donald Trump's running mate. " don't like coming in second. Ever," Christie said Thursday. But the conversation overheard by THE WEEKLY STANDARD Sunday suggests Christie's feelings were far more intense than mere disappointment.

New Jersey deserves better. I hope they've learned their lesson about so-called "moderate" Repubs.
