A friend calls predawn from Cleveland: What are we going to do? No ones coming, she says.
Even before Nice, people were dropping out. Reservations for 700 rooms for volunteers who were to double up 1,400 people had to be canceled, she says. Theyre not coming.
None of the partys previous presidents is attending. Trey Gowdy (S.C.), one of the most respected members of the GOP House caucus, isnt going. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.), the highest-ranking Republican woman in the House, is skipping it.
Not even Tim Tebow is going.

Cleveland is an amazing town. I live here too. If I didn't care for it, I would simply leave.
Cleveland is nothing like it was ten, five or even two years ago. You state the "lake effect snow", but last winter (particularly December) was very, very mild.
Everyone I know--family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances enjoy the many, many interesting amenities Cleveland has to offer. I don't know anyone actively looking to leave the area.

(60,352 posts)We didn't grow up here, we were transferred here with the company I work for.
That may soon be ending and we will not look back. We have enjoyed parts of Cleveland and other parts not so much. But we were from the mid west, he real mid west, where people don't crap all over each other.

(4 posts)As I previously stated, if you don't like it you should leave.
I'm not sure what you mean by "where people don't crap all over each other"
Happy trails.

(2,106 posts)look at his competition. It's not difficult to win a contest when the people you're up against are Louis Gohmert, Joni Ernst, Tom Cotton, Darrell Issa, etc.
if you look at it that way. What a party, sigh.

the gist of her piece was that Palin is an idiot and should immediately dumped off the ticket with McCain. Parker was right, and received major shit from other Republicans for it.

(82,849 posts)That blood they want to water the tree of liberty isn't going to be any of their precious hemoglobin.
And the lack of volunteers is going to show up all week in dead air and general confusion. Look for the convention to be, by turns, stultifyingly boring and manic overload.
Wounded Bear
(58,799 posts)they get to fill all of the dead air with their face time, babbling about bullshit nobody cares about, repeated over and over again, ad nauseum. I love Rachel Maddow, but even she gets boring during those stupid election night specials when they keep flashing back to the update that says "Nothing new to report, back in 10 minutes." In the meantime, let's fill you in on the news you haven't heard in at least 10 minutes. And do you think the candidates hair style reflects on their belief in neo-fascistic conservatism?

Bikers for Trump will be there, but they may not need hotel rooms. A barroom floor should work just fine.
The roadies who fill the red, white, and blue balloons will be there, too. But only if Trump pays them in advance. Nobody trusts Trump to pay his bills.
Big question: why is your friend calling in the pre-dawn? Are they up early? Or out late?
