Two Grosse Ile High lacrosse players accused of slitting a guinea pig's throat and hitting it with a bat were arraigned on felonies Monday, authorities said.
Tanner Coolsaet, 18, and Michael Roth, 17, of Grosse Ile are each charged with two counts of felony animal cruelty killing or torturing animals and conspiracy to kill or torture animals, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
They're accused of bringing a box with the animal inside to a team meeting at 11:30 a.m. April 30 before a lacrosse game.
"Coolsaet had a knife and slit the guinea pig's throat. Roth grabbed the guinea pig and struck it with a small bat. The animal died shortly thereafter," according to the news release.

Two teen athletes face felony animal cruelty charges after investigators said they slit the throat of a guinea pig and bashed it with a bat before a lacrosse match earlier this year.
Tanner Coolsaet, 18, and Michael Roth, 17, both of Grosse Ile, are each charged with two counts of killing or torturing animals and two counts of conspiring to kill or torture animals, according to the Wayne County prosecutor's office.
All charges are felonies punishable by up to four years in prison. They were expected to be arraigned at 33rd District Court in Woodhaven at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
"On April 30, 2016, at approximately 11:30 a.m. the Grosse Ile High School varsity lacrosse team met before a game," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's Office said in a statement Monday.

They are monsters, and should be reviled by everyone who knows them. They should automatically be inadmissible to any institution of higher education, but I doubt anything will be done to them.

Woodhaven A third Grosse Ile High School lacrosse player has been charged in the alleged pregame slaughter of a guinea pig in April, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
The 16-year-old boy was charged in juvenile court with one count of killing/torturing an animal and one count of animal cruelty, spokeswoman Maria Miller said in a press release. The boy was not named since he is underage.

The charges stem from a pregame meeting around 11:30 a.m. April 30 involving a group of varsity boys lacrosse players, according to the prosecutors office.
Two team members, Coolsaet and Roth, arrived at the meeting location and produced a box containing a guinea pig, Miller said in a statement earlier this month. Coolsaet had a knife and slit the guinea pigs throat. Roth grabbed the guinea pig and struck it with a small bat. The animal died shortly thereafter. ...
