An Obama Spending Spree? Hardly (CHART)
A dominant theme of the national political discourse has been the crushing spending spree the U.S. has ostensibly embarked on during the Obama presidency. That argument, ignited by Republicans and picked up by many elite opinion makers, has infused the national dialogue and shaped the public debate in nearly every major budget battle of the last thee years.
But the numbers tell a different story.
The fact that the national debt has risen from $10.6 trillion to $15.6 trillion under Obamas watch makes for easy partisan attacks. But the vast bulk of the increase was caused by a combination of revenue losses due to the 2008-09 economic downturn as well as Bush-era tax cuts and automatic increases in safety-net spending that were already written into law.
Obamas policies, including the much-criticized stimulus package, have caused the slowest increase in federal spending of any president in almost 60 years, according to data compiled by the financial news service MarketWatch.

(6,160 posts)WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) Of all the falsehoods told about President Barack Obama, the biggest whopper is the one about his reckless spending spree.
As would-be president Mitt Romney tells it: I will lead us out of this debt and spending inferno.
Almost everyone believes that Obama has presided over a massive increase in federal spending, an inferno of spending that threatens our jobs, our businesses and our childrens future. Even Democrats seem to think its true.
But it didnt happen. Although there was a big stimulus bill under Obama, federal spending is rising at the slowest pace since Dwight Eisenhower brought the Korean War to an end in the 1950s.
Even hapless Herbert Hoover managed to increase spending more than Obama has.

(15,445 posts)bald-faced. Along with Nicole Wallace, that gag-inducing excuse for a Repuke "contributor", the show is nearly unwatchable.
The only saving moments are the looks of utter contempt passing over Mika's face as they spew their crap. She is royally pissed! But, outnumbered and brow-beaten by Scar.

It is easy to find these charts.
Is she told not to speak up? I wonder.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)so she can stay on the boss' right side, is it part of her contractual duties on the show, or is she simply ill-prepared with nothing to back up a counter-argument?
You'd think after all these months of Scar flogging the same dead horse (i.e. Obama's "debt explosion" , she'd get her shit together, do some serious research, and confront him head on.

(1,364 posts)how so many on this board will bitch about Joe "Dead Intern" Scumborough and then still continue to watch him and give him ratings. Absolutely amazing. And, don't give me this nonsense about having to find out what the whackjobs are saying. Just look at the postings here and you will know.

(53,410 posts)Instead of criticizing others like you're all superior. That's snotty in my view. Just ignore the threads that offend you. It's a no-brainer.
Bohunk68
(1,364 posts)is still on the air because some still watch him and give him ratings, ergo money in pocket. What is so difficult for you to understand about that? If you really really want to watch Progressives, then go to Current TV during the same time slot. See how easy that is? But then, I guess you wouldn't have anything to whine about.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)You obviously think I watch Joe Scarborough. I don't, but I appreciate that other DUers do so I can stay abreast of the facts out there. You're the one who's whining about anyone who watches Joe. As a matter of fact I've seen your posts saying exactly the same thing in quite a few threads about Scarborough. Why do you bother since you're above it all? Evidently it's so you can feel superior to other DUers. Or is it because you can't stay away from Scarborough threads? If you think it's such a waste of time to post about him then don't you think you should stop posting on threads about him? D'oh!
I do.

It is good to shoot down these talking points whenever possible. Also, how could one know what was said about the show by reading the postings here unless someone else was watching the show?
My suggestion would be that if someone is not interested in what is discussed on these shows, then they should simply skip these types of posts and not comment at all. There are plenty of other discussions going on. They pretend not to be interested but cannot help themselves from commenting. Why is that?
Bohunk68
(1,364 posts)you are putting money in his pocket and come across like you don't get it. And, oh, yes, please please no one should comment on your not getting it. Watch Current TV on the same time slot or better yet, go watch Link TV. Quitcher whining.

(4,017 posts)In the case of TARP Congress passed the bill and Bush spent half of it then Obama spent the other half.
For ongoing stuff like the Energy Dept a new budget (or continuing resolution) must be passed.

(1,362 posts)As is the so-called article above. Take this spew for example, "That argument, ignited by Republicans and picked up by many elite opinion makers", blah blah blah. During the criminal chimp administration, Cheney said "deficits don't matter" and every ahole repuke agreed.
Any article that ever mentions what some repukes are doing or thinking is FULL OF SHT in its very premise.
