It doesn't matter what issues concern you here at DU.
We are now in election season. Donald Trump's daily outbursts and statements should scare everyone who loves this country.
Hillary is not the issue. Hillary happens to be the only person who stands in between the United States continuing as we know it, or hurtling into unchartered waters of a totalitarian state. Does anyone doubt it now? Don't think for a moment it can't happen here.
I always vote on hope and optimism. I always vote for the brighter future.
But this time, I'm voting out of fear. Fear of Donald Trump.

(19,324 posts)Trump will fundamentally change America from a free country to one that throws people in prison for speaking against the government. People don't seem to fully grasp what's at stake here. This isn't 4 years of Bush, this is a dictatorship. All the rights minorities, women, workers, and gays have fought for will be gone.
You think the government searching masses of emails for key words is a violation? Wait until Trump's forces read your email that is critical of him and they show up at your door and drag you away.
You want to know what he has in store? Look at what is happening in Turkey right now. Trump will purge the government of liberals, throw intellectual liberals in prison by the hundreds of thousands, and start torturing Americans simply to intimidate the rest of the dissenters into silence.
And the end result is what these RW gang of militarists have always wanted, what they are just dying to do, they want to use nuclear weapons. More than anything else they want to use nuclear weapons on people so they can get rich off the mess that follows and forever gain control over the masses who will be enslaved just to eat.

(19,324 posts)If Trump wins our next election will be about as meaningful as Turkey's next election will be. Voting rights are already hanging by a thread.

(5,072 posts)And they are rapidly descending into some sick fascist fantasy of what America should look like. Donald Trump is just a symptom of their disease. Defeat him we must. But we must also work like the devil to dismantle the current version of the Republican Party. It's toxic as hell.

(2,657 posts)His presidency, this country as a free society, or both wouldn't last a year and it will be a very painful process. Those of us around remember what a seemingly never-ending nightmare Watergate was, particularly the night Archibald Cox was fired. That was a true Constitutional crisis following shortly after the even more never-ending Vietnam war nightmare and it's resultant civil conflicts. I DO NOT long for those times.

(21,762 posts)He probably hasn't planned to be America's first dictator but since it will make him money, he'll be thrilled to do it. Thanks, Vladimer

(5,902 posts)But he's say and do anything to keep the tea baggers on his side - and that's what's really scary, because as we all know, their extremism and hatred is practically insatiable.

(30,058 posts)No direction on policies, if he plans to have Mexico pay for a wall, what does he plan to have Americans pay to create Trumps dream world. It is telling when the former Republican presidents and even the governor of Ohio where the convention was held did not show up for the convention. Elect Hillary, she will work for everyday American citizens.
