Memo to Donald Trump: It gets hot in Virginia in July, buster. Suck it up. Theres nothing you can do about that. Deal with it.
The Republican presidential nominee didnt deal with it very well Monday afternoon at The Hotel Roanoke.
He trashed presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for her bad judgment in picking Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate. He slashed Kaine as a weak and ineffective Virginia governor and a political hack. He bashed Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a frequent Trump foil, as Pocahontas, calling the Massachusetts Democrat the worst senator in the U.S. Senate. Weirdly, he warned that without the right appointees on the U.S. Supreme Court, it will be back to Venezuela. Huh? Seriously, he said that.
And, in the biggest room in the finest hotel in Roanoke, along with at least 1,600 chanting and cheering Trumpeteers, the candidate trained his attention-deficit-disordered thoughts on a purely apolitical topic: The room was too hot.He whined and whined about The Hotel Roanokes air conditioning. No kidding.I think this ballroom and the people who run this hotel should be ashamed, Trump told the crowd. I think its actually cooler outside than it is in this damn ballroom. (It wasnt.)He boasted there were 1,000 people standing outside on the Wells Avenue side in 104-degree heat, listening to him on loudspeakers. (There werent; there were at most 50, according to a city firefighter who was outside, and the temperature never hit 100.)
Perhaps jokingly, Trump suggested he wouldnt pay the bill after his campaign apparatus commandeered a large chunk of the hotel for most of the day. Trumps a tough guy, see. Nobody takes advantage of him. Especially, whoever runs the thermostat.
I feel like Im in a sauna. I dont know what hotel this is, Trump went on. You let people suffer and dont turn on the air conditioning. This is ridiculous. It was ridiculous, but not in the way Trump intended. The ridiculous part was him standing there wailing about it.
He suggested the hotel turned off the AC to save money. (It didnt. The main ballrooms air conditioning was set at 63 degrees. We did have it set as low as it could possibly go, said Michael Quonce, the hotels public relations manager. It was running at 99 percent efficiency.)Trumps comments were chintzy, low-rent, third-rate and wholly unbecoming for a major party presidential nominee. But they are pure Trump, full of narcissistic bullying, worrying about his own comfort, picking on an entity that cant pick back.
For the record, the hotel doors were open for two hours before he began speaking, to let in thousands of Trumpeteers (some were shunted off to an overflow ballroom). People were packed in the main ballroom like sardines. Trump was standing under stage lighting. What does he expect? You dont get meat-locker temps under those circumstances. And part of it was Trumps own fault. The temps in the room probably went up 10 degrees after he opened his mouth.
Presidential campaigns are long, arduous and frequently nasty. By circumstance of the calendar, part of them happen in the summer, when temperatures can get hot. The rhetoric can get hot, too.Whats that old expression? The one that begins, If you cant stand the heat ...If Donald Trump cant stand the heat of a Hotel Roanoke ballroom in July, perhaps hes not cut out for the rigors of the campaign to come.
Maybe he ought to get out now, and go find some place to cool down.

Trump should just avoid warm regions of the US this campaign season: Southeast, Southwest, Midwest, etc. and never set foot in Florida because he just can't handle the heat. He should just campaign out of Trump Tower Manhattan and look down on all of us from his ivory tower while munching on taco bowls. Douchebag

Of course, he had the best of reasons in Trump world: I've already paid enough. HEADLINE: "Judge orders Trump to pay nearly $300,000 in attorney's fees in Doral painter's lawsuit."

(28,824 posts)never make it to corporate media. like the time he spent rehashing the primary after he had already accepted the nomination, because his skin is so thin he can't let anything go and he just went on and on about cruz.
he's a sick puppy. maybe if the corporate media stopped portraying him as a reasonable candidate more people would see what is so plain to most of us here on DU. a trump presidency is a horror to contemplate.

i don't watch much corporate news, it just raises my blood pressure. even NPR's political coverage sucks...but i hope you're right and they're beginning to catch a clue about the creature they unleashed on the american people.

(39 posts)God help the USA and the world , if this man ever becomes POTUS. This is an example of how he would act. "A whiny little bitch" (thanks, Bill Maher) who is a demagogue who "gamed" the poor Repub voters and hi-jacked their party and primary. Their desire to regain the White House has blinded them to the true tRump. As fellow Americans they deserve better.
P.S. I don't think he was kidding about not paying the hotel bill.
HipChick
(25,485 posts)Grammy23
(5,815 posts)since not paying his bills has been in the news lately. And one judgement against him was 10 times the amount he owed one contractor. So in addition to the $34,000 he owed, the judge added an additional $300,000 to be paid by tRump. If he had AN OUNCE of self awareness he wouldn't dream of joking about not paying the hotel for the use of its ballroom. Trump is mentally ill. He puts his disorder on display every time he opens his mouth, but his followers are either too dumb or deluded to recognize it. The media need to continue to explain his bad behavior in terms they can understand so at least if they still remain loyal, they can't say they didn't know. And if anyone is on the fence about who to vote for, the information about his obvious mental health issues will help them understand why they shouldn't vote for tRump.

(9,753 posts)Ultimately, shouldn't Trump's assholery as a person -- let's not get into areas he's unacquainted with, like 'policy'), but just him being a nasty little schmuck -- cost him? Won't those Americans who haven't made up their minds see what everyone else without 'Trumpkin' branded on their forehead sees?

(2,030 posts)I'm asking for payment up front, in cash. That's what everyone needs to do this campaign.
I saw a video on Facebook of a piano maker who sold him 30 pianos for a casino. He should have kept a security interest in them so he could at least seize them. Or not given the pianos over until he had the money. He gave them 30 days and they never paid and he had to chase them and of course they ignored his calls, etc. Then they offered him 70% of his bill. He knew the 30% would get used up in lawyer's fees anyway. Donald knows how to take advantage of people in that way and is not ashamed to. It is funny when in business you realize there are people out there who take pride in knowing they've paid all they owe and would just never take advantage of a situation where they might get away with not doing it. Others don't have the money or spend it on other things they consider more needed than paying your bill. Then there are those like Donald who do it on purpose.
Or possibly he really did not have the money because of his mismanagement of things. People assume he is rich and that they are going to make out well doing business with him. But then they come to find out they should not have trusted him.
