Like you, or many of you, I have been enjoying to the max the spirit of this convention. But this seems like an unnecessary error to me.
I am sure that including a video with Susan Sarandon in it will put some of you in a frenzy. But if you listen to what they are saying, there is a very real point. If this is how this campaign treats those who have supported Senator Sanders (no matter how assholish some of them have acted at times) it does not bode well for unity or for Progressive progress in this country.
I thought President Obama had it right with his shout-out last night to the energy and dedication of the Sanders supporters. I believe he is wise enough to know that you win elections by including more people, especially those who already want to vote for you, than you do by excluding them.
From this admittedly limited vantage point, not allowing Nina Turner to speak and put Bernie into nomination seems a picayune and wrong-headed decision, an unnecessary loss.
I hope that all Democrats can appreciate that the numbers are approximately 50/50 in that hall and act accordingly.

(1,474 posts)To parlay her name to greater recognition and more influence, she wanted to pull this stunt, but did not have the power to do so. I'm not angry at her. She is a professional politician and she's playing the game with what I said she has. But she played amd lost.
Edit: actually, if she does become as a martyr of the Revolution, she will have won.

Her person lost. Period.

Bernie got the same number of nominating speeches as Hillary did.

(34,144 posts)The full roll call was held, Sec. Clinton got the most votes and Sen. Sanders threw his support to Hillary Clinton. It is over for his campaign - though it is not over for his movement. Unless his more fanatical followers alienate so many potential supporters that they kill it.
Bernie Sanders did not seem to have a problem with Rep. Tulsi Gabbard placing his name into nomination. SANDERS is the one that Turner should have this discussion with. IF he really wanted her to nominate him, I bet it would have happened.

Our nominee is Hillary Clinton. Those who don't support her shouldn't get so much as the time of day.

(51,666 posts)I say this as someone who supported Bernie with all my heart. I still support him.
But HE IS NOT THE NOMINEE. His supporters need to grow up and understand that they didn't win this fight.
The diehards totally lost me with their shameful behavior toward Cummings and Lewis.

(32,342 posts)Not sure where you guys want this to go. The Greens consider the Democratic Party the opposition and behave accordingly. If they wanted to act in coalition, there might be more of an opening, but so far everything that I have seen as public behavior suggests the opposite.
