Obama has this same quality and it's seen as a weakness to some on both sides. It's not; and all the crude calls for the POTUS to curse, 'grow a pair,' etc. are demanding he and his administration to adapt the same tactics as Bill O'Reilly.
That's not what I want in a candidate and being a hot-head doesn't allow one the level of reflection and even-handedness, even to those I despise, to be in charge of over 300 million people in the limited way that a POTUS is constrained to act. I do want someone with what I call an expansive personality.
It's part of the reason the media, which is owned by the right allows nothing else to be said, no other voices to be heard. There are many people who go to work everyday or take care of others in their lives and are not empowered to vent their frustrations on strangers or act like drunks at the last hour of closing time at a honky tonk in real life.
That's a level of discourse that followers of Rush Limbaugh regard as 'manly talk.' When we think about it, most of the time he's been on the air he was high on pills. And he has serious issues with a lot of people that scarcely qualify him to make decisions for anyone.
Is that the kind of person we want in charge of executing the laws of this country, as democratically written even if we disagree, or with the power to launch nuclear missiles? Will we feel like the big tough guys for all of that?
That's what we had with 8 years of Bush and 8 years of Reagan selling us out while they played cowboys. The people in the Obama administration may not deliver the blood curdling speeches we want to hear, but the right is the master of that genre. I'm satisfied with quiet people who do their jobs and don't go for the glory.
Those are the guy of people I've liked having in my life, and that's who I want running the show.
