It was slow in coming and inevitable that the GOP little Brown Shirt spies would be coming out. Here locally we have been having these little goons with their little video cams coming and filming all of our public events where a Democratic candidate is speaking or holding a public forum. They are taking the meetings they film and putting little snippets out of context and putting it on the internet attacking Democratic candidates for every word slip they can come up with or invent. It seems to be occurring down to the local level even to dog catcher as far as I can tell.
At our meeting today we had two little brown shirts at our Senior Resources town hall. One was filming and trying to get interviews from any Democratic official or candidate in the room. He did commandeer one or our school board reps, but I intervened and stopped him from commandeering my state Senator who is a major target of the GOP in my state. They have a right wing Libertarian fascist running against her. And there may be as much as $1 million spent against her for our district.
At the last town hall our senator was asked about a tax that has not even been proposed yet to pay for schools, she indicated that she might support it depending on what it was. No sooner than she spoke it was all over the local internet that she supported this tax. They falsely said that there was not a tax she did not like. And she did not say what they claimed.
I found out from one of our school board members that the GOP sends scores of their people to film every school board election. And they post anything they can on the internet to trash anyone who is not in full compliance with their beliefs.
You can expect that every Democratic candidate will be filmed extensively even for the smallest of races. Citizens United has unleashed a swarm of spies in that from what we can tell these people are being paid to film all events.
Yet you cannot go into ANY GOP public meeting without your cell phone being seized. And if you don't ask the right question you will be arrested or tossed. It is common knowledge that the GOP holds closed events even if it is public. You are required to identify yourself or you are denied entry.
The spies showing up at our events refuse to sign in or identify who they. And they film whatever they want.
The GOP NeoChristianazi Party is determined to make this country a totalitarian state run by them and the oligarchs. They are being very open about their intentions. They have declared war on democracy and the American people. As a Vietnam veteran I will not accept their intimidation tactics nor their war against women, gays and the vote. Flush that turd Romney and the Republicturds down the toilet where they belong and reside.
These two young men who were at our town hall were both young white guys who do not have a pot to piss in literally. And I saw some one with GOP stickers on the "junker" driving out of the library parking lot.
If you know of any tactics like this in your area respond. I would like to know if what I have described is going on in your local races. We are seeing a pattern here that is growing. And the GOP is locking out anyone who they do not know.

(10,602 posts)I know we do it too, but it seems like the GOP here screens everyone out and keeps events as closed a possible. They have doubled down on security. They apparently are getting much more aggressive and intimidating. We have been generally decent to the ones showing up but today I intervened in this case. They have the idea that they can take over but this idiot was going too far.

(5,436 posts)I started a (very small) project a while ago, to take snapshots with cameraphone of certain cars with repig bumper stickers. The cars had to be 20+ years old, rusty, falling apart, etc; and the repig stickers had to be new or pretty fresh-looking. I thought the number of cars I found would be few and far between, but good for a laugh.
I gave up when the sheer volume of idiots' cars matching those qualifications showed how common these sheep/air-wasters were.

(37,166 posts)When they put up an edited clip, someone with the original needs to be ready to put up a video showin the deceptive editing. And the little ratfuckers need to be shown to be associated with the other campaign. Show them at the Dem event, show them getting into their car to leave, show that car at a Repg closed event (even better, them going in while Democratic voters are turned away.
If you want to stop ratfuckers, fuck them back.

(5,436 posts)It seems that a tipping point has been passed if this is happening in a concerted, conspiratorial way. These assaults on Democracy are scary, for things that seem "kinda normal" now would have been shocking a few years ago, but their incremental nature is blinding us to their danger. The citizens united money cesspool has more outlets than just advertising.
How long till literal riots, paid for by billionaires? Just a few increments past what we're accepting now....

(96,793 posts)They showed up at every legislative forum with their video cameras and they would go around talking to people in attendance, sticking their obnoxious camera in people's faces. So we started following them around and standing in front of the camera and not answering any of their questions.
They stopped coming to the forums after we did that a few times.

(16,230 posts)When they're trying to record (and you're sure they're a GOP spy), stand in front of their cameras. Whisper loudly at them to ruin their audio. "Don't I know your mother"? "Didn't you go to school at abc"? Or maybe "are you the guy they arrested for xyz"?

(10,602 posts)GOP events anymore are secured. They will force you to sign in and give ID. And they will check your background. And if they catch you you will be treated roughly. It is like early Nazi Germany with them. They are only holding events where they have total control. Even though they are listed as public meetings they are private. Even where they meet in a public arena they are allowed to keep the unwanted out.
If you try to demonstrate without a permit anywhere near one of their offices they will call the police and have the demonstrators removed or arrested.
