A stage at Toronto's Downsview Park has collapsed in advance of a scheduled Radiohead concert, killing one person and injuring at least three, according to Toronto EMS.
Calls came in to emergency crews at about 4 p.m. ET. One person was declared dead at the scene, one was transported to Sunnybrook Hospital in serious condition and two others were treated for minor injuries and released.
CBC's Maria Nunes was driving by the park when she noticed the commotion. From her vantage point. she could see five ambulances, two police cars and a firetruck.
The 7:30 p.m. concert is cancelled, and Radiohead's official Twitter feed advised fans not to make their way to the venue.

(1,033 posts)I saw them earlier this week (excellent show) and that's a big, complex stage they have. I'm assuming something went wrong during the assembly of it.
That's tragic, though. My thoughts are with those affected by this.

(13,905 posts)Radiohead bring their own hanging gear and riggers, but the local steel looked pretty wimpy for what they were doing. Looks like regular old construction scaffolding, and it's probably been well used. Radiohead hangs a lot of stuff. Four (or more) huge posts are needed for this sort of weight. I've built stages and rigged shows. You have to have your wits about you at all times. Someone should have called the thing off for being unsafe, just by looking at it. Stricter regulations, along with inspections on these events is long overdue.

(1,033 posts)You're right about more inspections and regulations for these kind of things. This kind of stuff is happening too often at concerts nowadays.
