WTF?? Latinos in Atlanta skeptical of the President's order

Last edited Sun Jun 17, 2012, 02:49 PM - Edit history (1)

The day before they were marching asking for reprieve for students through the DREAM ACT. The next day the President makes his announcement and now their spokesperson is saying that they are not satisfied because he should have made an executive order on immigration. Are they tainted by the rethuglicans all over Georgia. I am trying to understand this.

from what little you OP'd and what little I've read of this, I'd say it's pretty f'ing clear.

Having your ICE not go after DREAM kids, isn't the same as assuring those same kids have long term citizen rights, leaving future administrations to re-start booting those kids out.

Similarly to the NDAA, wherein Obama says he won't abuse it, but leaves it open for the next president to abuse.

I note you still do not provide a link, but again based solely on the lack of information you provide, they wanted something that would assure their children citizenship, not a delay in being deported, which is all Obama has assured them of.

Additionally, they may be looking at his record with MMJ, wherein he said he'd back off prosecuting, but then ramped up instead and begam mass arrests in states with legal MMJ.

make something much needed permanent? How would you deal with a republican that one day could become President and turn the tab back so far, it would wipe out any future progress on immigration? Sit in the hot seat and move from the couch.

That drives me nuts. Shit being stirred by those that think they're so much more justice minded than anyone else.

Just what would you have Obama do? Enlighten all of us so that we may save the world. Guide us all. Govern by fiat?

Deliberately not enforcing a law and somehow giving them work permits.

Latinos in red states are usually tainted by rethuglicans, no surprise here.

I live in the Atlanta area and know the latino reaction first hand. They are excited, hopeful and anxious to fill out the paperwork.

Their concern is only that Mitt Romney might get elected and stop it.

My daughter dates a kid directly affected by this.

Everyone is excited and happy!

if Rmoney wins?

All of a sudden that asshat has a list of young illegal aliens who have already admitted that they are eligible to be deported.

It is only the enforcement that is changing here, not the law itself. This is exactly the kind of thing Pres. Obama refused to do with DADT.

I don't blame them a bit.

It's a step in the right direction, but we still need comprehensive immigration reform, and not just that "secure the borders" bullshit.
