Wolves kill worker at Swedish wildlife park

http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/06/17/sweden-wolves-idINL5E8HH7JB20120617

(Reuters) - A pack of wolves attacked and killed a worker in their enclosure at one of Sweden's most popular wildlife parks on Sunday, said police, who did not know what had triggered the attack on the 30-year-old woman.

"She was so badly hurt in the attack that she died of her injuries," said a police spokesman for the Ostergotland district, where the Kolmarden park is located.

"We do not know why they attacked."

Police remained on the scene to investigate the incident at the biggest wildlife park in the Nordic region, located around 150 km (93 miles) south of Stockholm.

dont you think?

Have you seen the film "The Grey"?...It's about a bunch of

guys stuck in a remote area of Alaska.

Needless to say, none were menstruating.

but ALL were attacked.

Just sayin'.

It's quite routine for a trainer to have to ask women models/actresses/singers if they are menstruating if predatory animals are used in photo shoots/films/videos. The animals have a stronger possibility of attack if they are.

As far as "The Grey" is concerned, that movie is total fiction. Your odds of getting attacked by a wild wolf are even rarer than you getting attacked by a wild deer.

Now maybe there were babies in the pack of wolves? That would make an attack more plausible as well.

Bears can smell the menstruation.

Also why you shouldn't have female coworkers. It puts the whole office at risk.

Out of curiosity, I googled. As far as I can tell, the conjecture that bears are attracted to menstruating women has no real scientific evidence behind it. Couldn't find anything about wolves at all, for or against with casual googling.

Katherine Hepburn(bringing up baby), Madonna(like a virgin), Iman(photo shoot) and I'm sure many others have been asked if they were menstruating when they were doing scenes with predator animals. It will set an animal off.

You're not going to find a link to Snopes, Yahoo, Associated Press. I'm sorry you don't believe that a predator animal can get affected by a menstrual cycle of another animal. Awww.

Sorry bro, but if you're unprepared to be questioned on "bits of trivia" you claim were passed onto you by

an anonymous zoo keeper and some unnamed "movie buff friends", I'm afraid you're going to get some grief here.

On DU, we tend to expect a higher level of documentation than this before we accept anything

as "absolute truth".

If you're not prepared for that, I'd suggest you either document your assertions

or refrain from posting as "fact" that which can't be legitimately documented.

Feel free to be "done" with me; I'm just giving you the DU facts of life.

If a of pack of hungry wolves found a lone human in the woods, they would kill him and eat him.

I'm not sure how it was documented that wolves will not attack humans, but I don't believe it.

I love wolves, but don't believe they would not attack me.

It's a prisoner's duty to try to escape. That's what prisoners do. They are in an unnatural setting; it is natural that a locked up mammal will seek its natural state of freedom. Guards should always guard against that. She obviously let her guard down.

As for karma...I and others are so apt to say "karma" when something good happens, so why should it not apply when something bad happens to a person? If you believe in karma, it cuts both ways.

How is it that you are surprised by that? Well, duh...they DO. All living creatures want their freedom to do what they were intended to do, and how their species was intended to exist.

It is no surprise that a locked up wild animal kills a guard who has let her guard down. Elementary, my dear Watson.

animals don't kill for fun. There is always a reason, even if YOU don't see it.

Imprisoned animals will kill for their freedom. Just as you would do.

If my relative were a guard at a prison, that is part of the risk, isn't it? The prisoners may make a break for it, and the guards could get killed. But of course, humans have the reason and knowledge to know not to kill someone. Animals just do what comes naturally.

There are no witnesses so we'll never know what happened i suppose.

in order for them to attack. They are normally either frightened or friendly towards humans. While wolf attacks are not impossible they are probably less likely than getting struck by lightning.

The first thought that came to my mind was "Taquito" - the character in "Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie" who was tasked with killing a wolf that was roaming the mall. When he decided to be the bait to capture the wolf he sadly announced, "I'm going to need some pizza and some duct tape".

I know this is a horrendous and sad story. But my mind keeps replaying the image of John C Riley stoically meeting his fate with pizza slices duct taped all over his body.

However I feel the need to counteract the negativity, which is mostly cultural and deep rooted prejudice toward the Wolf in general.
Attacks by wolves on humans and even livestock in Europe are rare, its been shown that they can and do live beside us. Most attacks in the last few years happen in captivity, due to becoming habituated, being around humans and associating them with food. The potential is there as with all large animals.
